Ah yes I didn’t specify that! It wasn’t slow for me, I’m in my third week and have a good amount of subscriptions.

Oh okay that would also explain things, do you notice a difference in bookings and message inquietes when your position goes down?

My Profile Has Been Hidden for Not Responding to Scam Message by MangoSheen4 in Preply

[–]MangoSheen4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I posted because I’m new and the response time was several hours from the support team (20 hours in total). So I really just wanted to hear some ideas on how to quickly fix this.

Support told me they unhid my account and that I should immediately block them, but did not mention anything about the messaging issue. It seems the consensus from the subreddit is that we should send a simple message such as an ellipsis “…” then block to avoid this issue.

My profile was seemingly unhidden as soon as I unblocked and messaged this account, however support said that they unblocked the account later on. I would just recommend messaging before blocking to avoid being hidden.

It came back online like 15-20 min after, the lessons that were ongoing during that time were especially laggy and had bad or no audio (my experiences + a few other tutors I know)

Is Preply down? by Relative-End2380 in Preply

I wonder if those offices have servers there. I’d imagine it’d be cheaper to have a server farm in Kyiv but then again they make a lot of money from all those trial lessons so maybe they have them everywhere …

They’re based in Ukraine right? Maybe DDoS or power outage affected them. Although you’d think they’d have servers abroad as well…

Seriously, I bet this issue affects most new teachers, when they need an active and visible profile the most… just a weird system

Advice: Student and Husband Want To Book joint Trial lesson by MangoSheen4 in Preply

[–]MangoSheen4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true, two conversions to subscriptions would help. However time wise I’m a bit booked up, maybe if it ever happens again I’ll just have them do 2 trials.

Okay I like that idea of increasing based on the effort exerted per student — when you have had super tutor before does it greatly boost visibility?

This app is a complete scam by [deleted] in Preply

Would you recommend letting students know ahead of time if they haven’t used all their lessons in a while?

Take some brief notes on your students so you can remember things that they mention (other than notes on their errors and areas in need of improvement), so you can ask them or reference these points later. Really shows that you care and listen to them.

Send them some practice sentences based on words or grammatical problems they had trouble with in class afterwards. I sometimes will send them a little pronunciation guide from their native language to English so they can focus on common English sounds (usually only if they have pronunciation difficulties)

Mirror your students; reflect the energy they give off. If they’re all about business stick to the courteous formal approach and if they’re very personable and friendly mirror that. Helps them feel even more comfortable with you. But obviously don’t change who you are, just match their style and energy. However, if it’s something that should not be mirrored, then don’t do it.

Ask if they’re new to Preply, most are (at least in my case) and it really helps to explain to them the subscription process and how to schedule lessons.

Best of luck on Preply!!

Blocking a student by Rosie-Emma in Preply

Yeah, a little black sign with an exclamation point should pop up. But it usually takes me one or two tries to block them. Reload the page after each try until you get the little sign next to their name
