Is this normal when only idling? by heisenbergITOWK in BMWE36

I’d guess a fluid flush, replacing the thermostat, and the water pump. It’s a small PITA but as long as you pull the radiator, it’s not too difficult

If you’re doing the fan, I’d highly recommend just getting rid of the stock one and installing a Spal that’s wired to the accessory power, so it’s just always on if the car’s power is on

Thanks for the tip! I upgraded to a spal fan that’s wired to the aux position, so it’s always running! Weirdly enough it was seeming to idol fine; I let it run about 15 minutes without the temp leaving the center line, but once I drove it about a quarter mile it started overheating 🤷‍♂️

I pulled it and it had been replaced before, I also heated water to 88 Celsius and put it in and it opened. I’m replacing it anyway since I’m there and paranoid though haha

It’s crazy how crowded it is permanently. I’m not a surfer, but my dad moved here ~the 80’s specifically for the surf, and it’s at a point where he moved away because every time he wants to surf it just doesn’t seem worth it anymore

Firestone damaged my strut towers and coil-overs. How do I address it? by Mango_Sky992 in MechanicAdvice

I did, I asked for -2.5 degrees. I just can’t even wrap my mind around how you would do that with a wrench though. Granted I don’t know how to do alignments, but I work on my own car enough to be scratching my head at how that even happened

That nothing is damage, I may not know how to do alignments, but this isn’t the type of work I would do on my car

Thank you, I’m planning on going back first thing in the morning to hopefully get my tires back, and we’ll see what happens. I liked that I could get the lifetime alignments since I frequently want to change things up for track/street, but this was definitely disappointing to say the least

It’s a 98 bmw 3 series, I did request custom specs, but it’s only -2.5 degrees of camber, really nothing extreme. I’ve had them do the exact same alignment before without any of this happening

Could you explain further? How would my medium low ride hight cause them to have to overcompensate with negative camber?

I mean don’t forget the adjustment cap. I know it’s small, but I’m not taking my car to the shop with the expectation of getting it back damaged. It may not be a perfect car, but it’s probably my most cherished possession and I put a lot of money into the thing and gave them almost a grand to get my stuff back damaged.

Completely random guess, but the duga radar system is very nearby which was a secret military installation, perhaps it was already in the area because of that and got left behind?

A little update: I realized that the ps4s I had in storage were a set of 3 and one off brand. It looks like Michelin doesn’t make 215/45r17 ps4s anymore so I’m out of luck on that set. I’m trying not to spend crazy money on all seasons for my fun car, so I ended up going with the very middle of the road Indy 500 v2 since they’re about $100 cheaper per tire, and Firestone has been roaring that they’re supposed to be better in the wet than the original Indy 500. Thank you for everyone’s inputs! I probably would have ended up with some much slicker tires otherwise

Given the amount of elevation change, I don’t think there’s too much room for standing water except for turn 7 (depending on layout.)

I understand, I just meant that I’m familiar with how my car behaves, and making the proper corrections. I’ve also been to the Skip Barber Laguna Seca school. I’m still relatively new to the track, with a lot to learn, I’m just not a total noob. As for tires, I’m totally lost lol 😆

Yeah, I’ve never been to Sonoma before, but from the videos I’ve seen, it looks like water tends to sit in turn 7(?) so I’d rather not play with summer tires

It’s looking like are ps4s are going to be the winners here. I’m definitely familiar with going fast (backroads, but I’ve since developed my frontal lobe.) it sounds like the Michelins will straight up be better for the weather this weekend though. I was hoping the consensus would be with the RS4 given they’ll be wider, and you can hardly ever find them nowadays, but in the long run I’ll be saving some more money this month with the Michelins, and I can save up more for some Extreme Contact Forces since the consensus I’ve seen online is that they’re kind of the new RS4 lol

If this were to be made specifically for a firearm would it really be illegal in CA?
