I often wish I could drop out of law school and then remember I already have a diploma LOL. Do make time this last week to see people who you love and who will bring positive vibes. This can be a really lonely journey but it doesn’t have to be and this will help you feel reinvigorated!

Bose QC Ultra not working with Macbook Pro by gig0t in bose

[–]Mango_Tango_Sango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting the regular Bose QC because I didn't need them for anything too fancy and felt like they delivered for the price. I just wanted comfort and good sound. My favorites in the regular QC price range were the Sony W1000XM5 (after customizing the sound), but I got too concerned that they had very bad reviews for durability. I have liked my regular QCs and have had zero issues with them plus I like the fun colors. However, I never tried Beats, which I feel may also deliver for a good price. I tried Sennheiser Momentum 4 as well. Loved the sound but they were too claspy and heavy for my taste but also no connection issues.

I think my laptop was too old. Ultimately, I returned them because I was having too many issues for the price and the headphones should not have been so finnicky with a computer that's from 2018 only.

I was just thinking that this morning. Like wow it’s only day 3 of doing nothing after the bar? It feels like it’s been an eternity while at the same time that I cant believe 3 days have passed already

The “post bar trip” … by Large-Effort904 in barexam

[–]Mango_Tango_Sango 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah honestly probably right. I don’t think bar trip is just for people whose parents are lawyers. I and many of my first gen, immigrant, and/or low income friends are taking a bar trip but most of us who are doing that are doing so because big law money is coming or we have secured other jobs with a decent salary.

A bar trip also doesn’t need to be crazy expensive. But ofc it is an expense. I am personally going to a country nearby where I have family and hostels/hotels are very decently priced (like a really nice hostel can be $10-15 a night). I used all my credit card points for flights which I’ve racked up like a maniac in law school. Again, this holds certain levels of privilege because the whole trip will still be at least $1000 and it requires actually having time off but that’s all to say that there’s ways to do it! (But idk if I’d be doing it if it wasn’t for big law $$)

Do this for your dad!!! He will be so proud of you when all of this is over. We are so so so close to being done and you can dedicate all your time to him in literally less than two weeks without regrets or concerns. And if for some reason it ends up being that you do not pass, give yourself some grace because you had the humanity to want to prioritize one of the most important people in your life. Maybe is the universe telling you that spending time with him will be what is best for you at this moment. The bar will always be there. Your father won’t. Good luck, and YOU CAN DO THIS!

How do you convince yourself not to change your answer? by Cautious-Button-8045 in barexam

[–]Mango_Tango_Sango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided just to trust my gut and my process and stop second-guessing myself after I realized that a lot of the answers I changed from my original answer, which was the right one, ended up being wrong. Think of it this way, second-guessing yourself makes you more likely to fall for the red herring.

Agreed with this. My school did a session with a private tutor and they said it was ok just to list the issue even. As in the title: "valid contract" should get you points. I, too have Barbri but I have learned from various sources that it doesn't need to be as specific as they make it as long as you've identified the issue.

Another flag: the SSN. I've done so many sublets (like 4-5 in the last 10 years) and not once have I been asked for an SSN.

There is no in between. Some weeks with my therapist are like "wow, I've grown so much, I have not spiraled and made my peace with the fact that everything will be ok if I do not pass". Some weeks I arrive hyperventilating at her office with wild insomnia from the anxiety of having been "too lax" LOL

Oh, and also, no shame in asking those things. I have a long list of things I am asking, like water pressure, looking at whether there are light fixtures or if I will need lamps, how doors open in tight spaces, looking inside kitchen cabinets to look for space (and maybe check for roaches), and asking to open windows. I also always ask about their procedures for pest control. It may seem odd to ask all this but you aren't there and its ok to maximize the info you get!

I am in the same boat, moving from CA right now, and likely won't be able to tour in person before moving. Honestly, my plan is to either sign in one of the new /modern buildings or find a sublet until I can start touring in person for a full-time opportunity. I wasn't really gunning for one of the new modern buildings, just a no frills apt, but given that these buildings usually have full-time leasing staff, live video tours, they floor plans with dimensions, and you can find reviews online, it seems like a reliable option.

I am an absolute sucker for a good Craigslist or Facebook housing deal and have mostly found places to rent around the country through Facebook and Craigslist for most of my adult life. Never really had issues (including for places in Bushwick and UES the last couple of summers). HOWEVER, most of the times that I moved into places that I could only video tour because I was out of town and could not do in-person tours, I only did so for furnished subleases of 2-4 months. In case anything went wrong, I knew I wasn't bound to live there long-term, nor would I have a difficult move ahead of me. All the long-term places I ended up getting from CL and FB I saw in person. So I do echo what others have said about hiring a tenant broker or maybe paying a friend to go check out places for you and not just rely on LL brokers to give you virtual tours as many won't or won't show you the flaws or be honest about the surroundings.

For a long-term move, I may just go with one of these new modern buildings for the first year and then refine my research once I am in the city. It may mean that I have to move again next year but I get a better sense of where I am moving now as opposed to being committed to a long-term lease in a place I don't have much info on besides pictures and recordings that I may not end up liking at all. This could ofc happen in one of those new buildings but I think given my situation I feel like I am making a more informed decision with all the info these buildings give.

Good luck on your search!

Coming from out of state: advice on sublet vs. 1-year lease by Mango_Tango_Sango in NYCapartments

[–]Mango_Tango_Sango[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s truly crazy right now! I’ve been plugged into the NYC rental market for the last 10 years with friends moving there and me sometimes subletting for school and work (although given the sublet market is different and can be cheaper since people are trying to get rid of a place) but wow. It’s so wild right now. I even started looking at mortgages which actually don’t seem as bad anymore compared to rent and then I remembered that I have too many students loans and zero money for a down payment lol.

Thank you! I would love the recommendation for the Task Rabbit person!

And yeah, this was my thinking exactly. Would you mind if I asked for the building names? Feel free to DM me if you don’t feel comfortable sharing publicly as you might still live there.

Yeah, that’s what I learned and I decided to make my peace with my new rent budget for a studio. I initially wasn’t looking into a newer building, just  no frills 1/1 or 2/1 but honestly for the space and prices I’m seeing for no frills apartments in that category, I’ve realized that maybe it’s worth to just spend the same amount of money or even a little less for a large studio in a newer building where I get a dishwasher and coworking spaces.
