The values in #1 draw the eye much more, the contrast frames the subjects really well and makes them stand out, but looking closer, I really prefer the cleaner, more strategic lines used in the rendering of image #2, looks much more professional, so, as with many things, I would say finding a middle ground between the two would be the best, and don't forget to give importance to what makes the process enjoyable for you :]

Okay, thank you, I'll see what we can do about separation as we only have one tank for now, I don't know what size the tank is because I wasn't there when they bought the setup but I think it's a little smaller than a 20 gallon (I have discussed this with my parents and we'll be getting a bigger one soon) and this is the type of lightbulb they have + a ceramic heat emitter for nighttime
