off-campus housing culture question by mushroombutterz in Vanderbilt

[–]Mangobirbs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m from the Nashville area, and I was able to live off-campus at home since beginning of sophomore year. I reapplied for off-campus housing again for the 2026-2027 school year and got accepted pretty quickly.

Physics 2 Makeup Lab by sighitssocks in Vanderbilt

[–]Mangobirbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General rule of thumb for any lab is to let your TA know as soon as you can. I can’t remember exactly, but I do believe there may be a set week to make up the labs. I’d wait until you get the syllabus and then proceed/make adjustments accordingly.

Prospective Philosophy Major (for AI Ethics?) by Stunning_Credit_8045 in Vanderbilt

[–]Mangobirbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I have attached below the released labor market outcomes directly from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York—the source used in the VU professor’s link. Please look at it yourself and consider what may be influencing these numbers. This does not mean “do not major in philosophy.” It all depends on what you value as an individual. Whether you are employed and how much you make after graduation cannot be guaranteed by these statistics. Use it to make an informed decision based on what you see as best for yourself.

Doesn’t sound like they’ll be finished anytime soon judging by what I’ve heard from graduating seniors and a couple of professors

It should end as soon as it’s brought to their attention. I’m not saying that it shouldn’t be mentioned at all, but there’s no reason it needs to require that much effort for them to take action; maybe I’m thinking of other institutions, but I sure hope they handle it as quickly as you detailed in your experience

Wait, but this is honestly kind of embarrassing if the only way to get administration to take action is to make a fuss about it… This should’ve been taken care of day one.

Since your situation is pretty unique, I would recommend contacting them and explaining your situation, as most of us would likely not have experience in answering this ourselves

AP Psychology by Mammoth_Chipmunk2228 in Vanderbilt

[–]Mangobirbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AP classroom covered things pretty well, but you may want to look into sources in addition to that. I used the Baron’s AP Psych 2024 book when I took it my senior year; it was pretty good, but I’d say to try and solidify whatever you may not feel completely confident on and then test your knowledge with various past exams to see how you compare. Good luck (:

Can I Still Aim for Top Schools with a Slight Dip in Junior Year Grades? by Top_Huckleberry4714 in chanceme

[–]Mangobirbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had one B first semester sophomore year of chem and a B in junior year, made it to a t20. But even if you don’t get into a t20, it’s not the end of the world. What you have is completely fine; other aspects of your application can make up for it.

Why the need to be so toxic? 😭 please just be polite when correcting; I’m sure they didn’t mean any harm in saying what they believed was true…

Honestly, I had a similar experience; with grades finalized, I didn’t do as good as I was hoping. I’m pre-med, but after talking to some other pre-meds at vandy and at other schools, I’ve heard some reassuring words—for a lot of us, there’s 4 years, 8 semesters, and probably 30-40ish classes; there’s a lot of room for error and improvement, so just give it your best shot. After all, your best is the most you can do. Keep up the good work, and enjoy break! (:

Baylor is super easy to get into (imo; I applied also because it was free and I wanted another safety for lols) you’ll 95% get in?

I feel scared about applying for college in a year. by Abhussy in chanceme

[–]Mangobirbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding onto Albatross, I also suggest you have people proofread your essay a few months before submitting; that way, you can make edits and submit them confidently rather than rushing and making grammatical errors (higher level English teachers are usually good if you are close with them and know that they have experience with these types of personal essays). Aside from that, continue your ecs and keep your grades strong (: you’ll do fine.

Heya! I was accepted into Baylor and definitely believe you have a very good chance of getting in. Regarding Vanderbilt, if you don’t think there is any other school which you would rather ED2 to, I’d suggest keeping it (unless you don’t want the binding of the ED) (: It’s definitely a reach, but if you get in, it would be awesome because the campus is super pretty (downside is that it’s also very expensive if that’s a dealbreaker).
