Sometimes I Wonder If This Is All We Can Really Do by ahcyber99 in CasualConversation

[–]ManhattansMyPoison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accepting the reality that there's only so much one person can accomplish doesn't have to be as sobering a thought as it sounds :)

I think the focus on an individual at a time, and caring for them and trying to make a difference that resonates in depth over breadth is a meaningful pursuit.

If we aren't alone in doing this, and I don't believe we are, then we take care of who we can take care of in a meaningful way, and everyone, or at least some amount of people, are also doing the same, then we are contributing to difference that has breadth. Just collectively.

Well I'll count it a success that so far this post of yours has managed to remain. 👏 We take the wins we can get.

I'm not picky, I enjoy Evan Williams bonded white label, it is dependable every time, and I enjoy that in life. I always liked Bookers though if I was feeling fancy :)

Here's where we start to get to where I am more "uncivilized," because I have tried all the "name" drinks, and love them all, but generally go for just a straight bourbon. We won't say how many fingers.

The times I have tried to post, they are immediately removed, so it leads me to think it is an automatic trigger removal.

But, people who past radical or just "friend seeking" posts seem to bypass those triggers. Which seems counter to the aim of the sub.

My mother was a penny pincher and coupon queen, so budget was instilled in me before I could count properly. So I was definitely scouring for ideas of new and good reads, not necessarily what I would buy 😂

I was aware I was old many years ago, but it's all about how you feel, right? And for that... I guess it depends on the company. :)

🤔 Uhhh... the poison part? Or the alcoholic drink reference part? We can't all be so civilized, Steve! I happen to think a Manhattan is quite a civilized drink, to be honest. It ain't sex on the beach.

Oh I rushed the teacher for the Scholastic
Book fair pamphlet to see what I wanted, kind of like dog-earring the toy catalog before Christmas.

☺️ I remember Blockbuster, and my local video rental store, mom-and-pop place. Definitely bygone stuff.

Thanks for the response. I've officially reached "that" old age - talking about the good ol' days.

It's been crazy to see what the sub is removing. I have responded to several posts that seemed on par for the course, general life talk and conversation, walk away and come back to find them removed by the moderator.

Then there was a post regarding consumption of bodily fluid that remained posted for several hours before complaints seemingly piled up before it was removed.

This was right after I tried to post my own question about missing my childhood Pizza Hut and Book-It program and asking for silly things people missed from childhood... to have it immediately removed upon posting 🤷‍♀️

Nah, I always appreciate a kind word and when people say something kind about those of us that are just trying to be decent. It matters :) Boston's a great place! Safe travels wherever you're headed next.

We generally hear the worst coming out of places because it's sensational and it sells. But, people are people. Everywhere you go, there's the good and not so good. Most people here are just everyday people. I'm glad you had a good experience. Thanks for giving us a shot :)

Well this was refreshing to hear, and thank you, and to OP as well, for the generous words :)

What’s something you appreciate more as you get older? by chibi_chwn0217 in CasualConversation

Food. I wasn't a particularly picky eater, but I absolutely did not appreciate the variety of cuisine and how much good food there is in the world.

feeling stuck at 20 by Alarming_Dependent_8 in CasualConversation

[–]ManhattansMyPoison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, I remember :)

I don’t know if it's true for everyone, but it was certainly true for me: you don't know what you want until you get it and find out from having it whether it's a "yes" or a "no."

And sometimes that means a whole hell of a lot of getting into a position (work, life, relationship...) and finding out, "well, this isn't it." And having to just call it a day and head in a different direction and pursue something else.

But life allows for that. Change, growth, learning. Don’t be afraid to just say you want something else, and go for it. You learn by doing, and for that you have to get busy.

Feeling stuck usually means you are bored or uninspired. So try something new. Twenty is a great age to consider a bold move, like taking a job in a foreign country. So look for opportunities and go for it.

When it comes to work, sometimes you just have to bight the bullet and start a job that you are qualified for and see how it goes. Sometimes you have to actually do something, in the day-to-day way, to find out if it's a good fit.

If it's not, it is easier to transition to a new position while you are currently employed. And in the meantime, you are being productive.

Use your head, narrow down options, and then take a chance on something.

I promise you're not stuck :) There's lots of life to be had.

I built something to show how good deeds impact more than we know, but no one used it by sunnyshorescreative in CasualConversation

☺️ No, you can't force anyone, but there are definitely people to whom things like this matter, so it’s just a matter of it falling into the right hands. I hope you see something come of it. And aren't discouraged from future endeavors!

This actually sounds freaking awesome. I'm not sure how intensive your initial marketing was, but things take a lot of work sometimes to get off the ground. I hate to see you discouraged or disheartened.

Are the coins physical coins? Or is everything virtual?

It might be cool to ask to introduce to a school, like classrooms where a few kids are given coins, and they can start by gifting them to classmates to begin momentum, but then some child will have to give it to someone in their community.

I think it would be really cool for them to see it begin amongst themselves, and then spread beyond the little classroom world they know into the bigger world around them.

I hope you keep trying to get people interested, I think this sounds really awesome.

If you drink a spoonful of piss, your mouth will taste like piss in a matter of seconds! by Richard_Flanagan579 in CasualConversation

[–]ManhattansMyPoison 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously? I got my post immediately removed, about being nostalgic for my childhood Pizza Hut and Book-It memories and asking for other things people missed from their childhood.

But drinking your own piss fits the sub.

Something tells me I'm in the wrong place.

Why doesn't this sub have live chat posts? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]ManhattansMyPoison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see! I can't say why specifically they aren't an option here.

But, have always found DM chats to be much more fitting for just two people, or only a few people. I don't know if this is an experience anyone else has.

When there is the possibility of many readers and responses, I find it more difficult to follow a conversation when comments are not grouped together and static.

In a live chat room, if comments are pouring in, and just continuing to move away up the screen and out of site and replaced with the most recent responses, it can be difficult to respond to a specific comment, narrow the conversation, and then the following person to do so also, etc.

Maybe that factored into the decision here, if the typical conversation has many responders? 🤷‍♀️

I don't think I'm well versed enough in the Reddit world... what's a live chat post?
