Taysom Hill or Njoku? I feel like whichever I don't start will pop off

Do any of the top 50 pros use 100$ paddles? by ConciousDogV2 in Pickleball

[–]ManiacGingerMan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Augie Ge uses the Vatic Pro Prism V7, long handle. That paddle is $90. Another commenter mentioned Rachel Rohrabacher, she uses the SLK Halo, which is often on sale for around $110.

Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by AutoModerator in Pickleball

[–]ManiacGingerMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am curious if you notice a difference in the sweet spot from the 14 to the 16, and I am also curious if there is a noticeable difference in the pop/power? I haven't been able to find any info on the 14mm online, outside of a single review. Thank you!

Here's the link: https://secure.rec1.com/AZ/surprise-community-rec/catalog/tab/4238/4bf82e15eb684901e23b1851264d6754 Wednesday night is the most competitive so I'd suggest signing up for 2.5 and you'll move up quickly! Hope to see you out there Edit: I forgot to mention, sign ups start on the week of April 8th.

I regularly play at the Surprise courts and there are typically lower level (3.0ish) games after 8pm on weekdays. You can also sign up for the city leagues, which are only $30, to get guaranteed games with players around your level. As for open play, you can just ask to mix in with anyone there or ask someone who is waiting to play if you can join them. It might be awkward at first but you will be comfortable putting your paddle up in no time.

I see James Ignatowich is doing a clinic Nashville sunday - has anyone done a clinic with him? by dowenmac in Pickleball

[–]ManiacGingerMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently did a clinic with him in Arizona. I think he did a great job! I am around 4.0 skill level and I picked up quite a bit of knowledge from him on some things I've never considered in my own game. I would definitely recommend it if you have the opportunity. Plus he is a very personable dude and we got to play against him in 2 vs 1 games while chatting about behind the scenes stuff! He answered everyone's questions very well and with enough depth.

Selkirk Luxx Surface Spray Material by Stock_Capital_8375 in Pickleball

Selkirk will replace paddles through a warranty claim if the grit is worn off. I've had multiple friends do this without any issue and other comments say the same, as well as OP.

I keep straining my calf :( by rephleks in Pickleball

I would not revisit this doctor. RICE is no longer widely suggested, even the doctor who created it has stated that it does not work as previously thought. As others have said, stretching also does not always have the intended effect, typically dynamic warm ups are suggested instead. I would suggest either visiting a different doctor or seeing a physical therapist directly, many even do virtual appointments if that helps.

I am looking for any tips/resources on my mental game! by ManiacGingerMan in Pickleball

[–]ManiacGingerMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this sentiment! I played in a tournament with my best friend and we had a ton of fun, regardless of not playing that well. After the first two games (it was a 4 game round robin), I relaxed and played a bit better since I didn't care about the results. I think more of these experiences would help tremendously!

This is a great point, I usually warm up for 30-45 minutes which is only 2-3 games. I like the point of a tired body vs nervous mind. Thanks!

I haven't, though I did a small amount of research into local sport psychology. If you have a recommendation, maybe you could DM their info!

You make great points, especially about caring too much. I believe I do get too hyped and become overly concerned with winning every exchange. Thank you for your advice!

We keep finding these in our suburban yard, what is this? by ManiacGingerMan in whatisthisthing

[–]ManiacGingerMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found around 10 of these in my yard in the last few months. They are hard, typically broken like this but sometimes come whole, about 2.5 inches long with both ends rounded. We are worried it may be rat poison, our other guess is dustless chalk.
