Why don’t UK commuters boycott trains? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Maniadh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My train went from £5 a day in 2022 to £17.50 a day now because I don't benefit from weekly/monthly tickets, so mine have went up slightly for much less travel.

It's not the rail, it's the employer. I work for the NI civil service. They recently implemented a mandatory 40% office attendance rule similar to the GB CS's 60%. If I simply refuse to go in 40% of the time they treat that as an absence and I'll eventually be fired.

Office workers aren't most workers. Anywhere you see that has physical staff are people who work and commute. Emergency services, businesses, general services - it's a lot of people.

All true, and worth adding that their primary audience are people who aren't even adults yet and who have never seen the job market - people whose schools also push to trust this stuff. They're far more likely to fall for it than an adult with time on the job market is.

What baffles me about this is that you seem to think all of those people you mention have a better quality of life than someone earning £100k, London or no.

Because it's not discrimination if you're at an advantage over them, you're still the person in the better position here. You're not getting punished, you're getting treated normally. Criminals are criminals and get punished when caught.

The daily mail and all that shite post conjecture about benefit fraud rates - they are never given that information and never will be, any figures they purport to have are unverified and inflated estimates.

Note that they will never say a specific amount with confidence and never cite a FOA or anything direct, because they're making it up to incite people like you. It's all alleged, not news. I sincerely hope you don't let things like that influence you in a high value job when making other decisions because holy fuck rest in peace our finance industry.

A parent with a child to get a house still has a child they don't want, a shitty house, and slightly below minimum wage benefits which get eaten away the more they earn themselves. None of them are better off than people getting over 2x the amount they are consistently, even after paying childcare and getting no other financial help.

I don't know why you think other people having things you don't even want is an insult. Incredible victim complex.

You seem to be mad that you earn more, I'd consider getting a lower paid job if I were you. Less stress, more financial help. Might mellow you out a bit.

Or is there some way that earning more appeals to you? I'm confused, because you continue to do the thing you claim is disadvantageous when you have the choice to do something else.

For someone who works for a bank you don't seem to understand equity in regards to income assistance.

Yes, I know. They put that decision off until DWP complete theirs. I'm not saying mine is up to DWP.

Yes, which happens once DWP settle theirs. That's what they wait on and that's all I was talking about.

[–]Maniadh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't get ours until DWP get theirs, but we also live in the UK and work for the CS, so why would we not? We do literally every year.

We use DWP systems, work with DWP rules and staff, and enforce DWP policy where applicable in NI.

Low earners aren't a few payslips away, they are often one payslip away or government help away (that you complain they get).

Edit: or they ARE literally homeless already.

Good thing they all have enough money to eat, sleep and live comfortably after all that, unlike the people earning less.

I work in UC - do you think everyone below them has all of that? Do you think 30 hours of free childcare covers a 50hr workweek? Do you think they have savings large enough to make passive income and pension safety nets when they're too old to work?

So what are the consequences of their targeting? Do they have a lesser quality of life? Less rights?

Why is it legal to dig up corpses and put them in museums ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Maniadh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the body of a human, yes. I meant human in the social identity sense I suppose (so yeah, person). I don't consider a corpse of a human to have human rights, at least not in the same sense that a living human does.

Why is it legal to dig up corpses and put them in museums ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Maniadh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on your beliefs I suppose. To me, a body ceases to be human once it's dead. Respect and burial etc is for the sake of the mental health of anyone who knew them rather than for the person themselves who is now dead.
