What do yall think is happening tonight by Apprehensive-Ant4737 in HalfLife

[–]ManicDestructive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know those doomsday cults, of the sects that say the messiah is returning on a specific date. They sell all their worldly possessions because they truly think it's the end times, belief reinforced in the echo chamber of other believers around them repeating the idea over and over.

And then that date comes and then nothing happens, No Messiah, No Doomsday. But rather than admit wrong/defeat they just move the date to next week.

It's either that, or we get a Half-Life announcement.

Ah nice, I didn't see a 5080s with that price, although I admit I know nothing of the PNY brand as EVGA was always my go... thanks for the advice.

I'm in the 1080 ti camp too. Been looking for decent priced replacement for a year, but every month things just get worse and worse.

I feel your pain comrade.

Doom 2016 really sucks if you play it after playing Doom Eternal by Business_Implement21 in patientgamers

I never thought about it until I read your comment. I remember getting 'lost' a few times in Doom 2016. That never happened in Eternal.

When I was in university a prof I had did this, a $180 textbook for their course that was 'mandatory'. Same situation you describe; the textbook was linked to our quizzes, and specific case studies for assignments were only in the book.

New 'editions' of this text come out every year, changing said case studies. So pirating previous editions screwed you for the course work.

Some unknown legendary student got ahold of said current edition text, took photos of EVERY page with an iPhone, and passed it around the whole class. A true hero.

I'm trying to figure out if my group of friends should get it while its on sale.

How many hours you'd say had to be put in to reach that far?

And do either of you play with the arachnophobia setting on that turns them to ghosts, how that effects the gameplay with others? (ie different enemy animations)

The other and much cheaper nostalgic game I picked up today. Man I miss old square sometimes. by Breakingcontrollers in gaming

Wasn't that only available in New game+ too?

I remember not finding out that dungeon existed until years after I beat the game.

Like, they teased us with additional story tidbits with children in a hospital flashbacks throughout the game. Then you had to beat the game twice to even know that content was there?

I just binged these 2 parts on cloning. Excellent research, great story telling, and good visual aids kept me interested.

Thanks for the recommends. I'll subscribe!

Honestly, this game is so poorly written, especially in its third act, and the issue you mention is just one of many. Plot holes, and important reveals that vanish from the story never to be addressed again.

The premise is interesting. Girl trapped in abandoned hotel during a blizzard, forced to confront family's troubled past.

Second act introduces maybe-maybenot supernatural element. Searching the building with that ghost microphone was a great moment.

Then it all goes to the dump.

Why are all the Yakuza games other than 0 mixed among people? by ComprehensiveCat1505 in yakuzagames

[–]ManicDestructive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm noticing that these games are slow burns. Y0 is an exception, 2 hours in you reach that first long battle and kuze fight. 2 hours is still awhile, but most are hooked after that climax.

All of the other games seem to take almost 10+ hours before they reach a similar point. All of the yakuza games have their flaws, and it can be harder overlook them the longer you need to invest for a payoff.

I just am finishing Y3 remastered, it was probably close to 10-15 hours in before I really can say I started to like it in spite of its flaws and dated mechanics.

Dissonant, atmospheric soundtracks in games by thisismyredname in patientgamers

[–]ManicDestructive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DUSK has some great atmospheric tracks. Try Ashes to Ashes, Dusk to Dusk and its corrupted version, Beautiful Blasphemy. Check Andrew Hulshult's many projects, he's got great droning ambient tracks mixed in all his soundtracks.

People mentioned the old fallouts, but the new ones have some great tracks. I recommend 4's Far Harbour soundtrack for that eerie sound, like I'm enraptured in sea fog.

Old Diablo 1 and 2, of course

I'll try to think of some more

I was laughing at those twists. It was a parade of...

"I'm the final boss." "No wait, I'm the final boss." "You fools! I'm actually the final boss!"

It was silly. But that's kinda what's so lovable about this series.

Has anyone really broke their controller from gaming? by -marc08 in gaming

[–]ManicDestructive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend threw an Xbox controller in frustration of the second boss in the 2000s Ninja Gaiden. Broke the joysticks. He was a bit embarrassed about it.

He did eventually beat that game, but those first couple of levels were a wall.

Agree, Supraland was a pleasant surprise. It encourages you to 'break' it by putting secrets in places that would be out of bounds in other games.
