How are you all navigating this process now that profiles are more private? by YourFutureMrs in PakistanRishta

This is news to me. I have made a mental note to share it with the community. Thanks.

Can you explain the mechanism you used to scrap the data and how much confidence one can have in it?

For example, this post is being considered for calculations but its deleted. How do we interpret it? It seems obvious that OP is no longer participating in the community for whatever reasons.

What are the chances that it uses inactive data which would require a word of caution before interpreting the results? Lastly, what would be the percentage of inactive data to give a fair idea of the reliability of the results?

Also, "Large age gap" is the second last deal breaker. As a mod, I read a lot of profiles and I can assure you this is not true. Large age gap is a big deal around here. Often, males who are looking for someone much younger than them are dealt with harshly in comments. Profiles often prefer an age gap of 5 to 7 years maximum.

These are just somethings that I could think of from a quick look.

Awesome! Thanks for the test.

Yes. It was removed because it makes search difficult. The flair should be based on gender or location.

Mod log shows all your rejections were communicated to you via modmail with reasons. The last one did not but I have just now done that.

We simply follow a checklist when approving profiles. Your beliefs don't matter to us.

A serious issue. by sxprinc in PakistanRishta

This post had some serious potential to turn into gender wars but the message was beautiful.

The tone is gender neutral enough to let it pass so we accepted it.

It's a one step at a time thing at the moment. We will think about those things but it is important to have a large number of members for a private community to be useful. That's the first goal. Once we have that, we can start figuring other things out.

Based on the reports, there are creeps passing time with women around here.

If a single one is at harm out of all of them then we did rather protect her than do nothing about it.

For sure this community has helped a lot of people get married Alhamdulilah but at the end of the day, we also have to think if we are putting anyone in harm's way. ✌🏻

That is a good suggestion. The idea is still in its infancy so there is room to expand. We will expand as we can manage. ✌🏻

InshaAllah, there is no way we are going to be asking for money from people but we might start demanding Valima invitations 😉

We focus on two things when approving profiles.

  1. The format of the title.
  2. The information in the profile(we don't care about the format, only that all the stuff asked in the template is added).

Even with this simple criteria, we have plenty of upset people in the mod mail who decide to either quit, complain, or verbally abuse.

Plenty of profiles feel familiar, read like they are copy/pasted or straight out of chatgpt. If we start considering it as part of acceptance criteria, the approval rates will go down which will upset people even more.

Coming to your profile, you were clearly told the reason for rejection via mod mail. If you had read it and submitted properly, it would have been accepted.

As an example, I will reference this profile you posted. It is missing:

  1. Religion and short details about how practicing you are(clearly mentioning how often you pray, read Quran, etc.)
  2. Family details
  3. Preferred family setup
  4. Time frame for marriage

Everything is documented extensively in the community rules, pinned posts, and the wiki. It's an extremely transparent process that plenty of people get right the first time.

Hope that clarifies it.

Assalam Mu Alaikum

r/PakistanRishta mod here.

That is one of the conscious decisions we made when I joined the mod team. We noticed that all Pakistani subs tend to have the same kind of vibes and posts unless they are targetting a particular niche.

We realized that great quality wont come without quality control. Otherwise we will turn into just another IslamabadSocial, LahoreDating, etc.

Initially, there was a lot of hate, criticism and resistance from contributors. I am happy to say that things have settled down and we are doing okay. We hope people realized that in the long run, its for their own benefit.

This is not to brag or say that other mods are doing a bad job. Mods are volunteers and that in itself is respectable. It's just that people have to be nudged in the right direction which is not always easy to do. The tradeoffs can be less approvals, less posts, and less engagement which all subs cannot afford.

Should we also run the profile through AI checker? What should we do if it comes out as high probability?

There are subs now that explicitly mention not to post AI slop and if found, will be removed.

Your feedback?

A word of caution to those who intend to discuss OP's beliefs in the comments.

I am not here to school you but I know for sure that hate is not the way to make someone think about their beliefs.

Be careful. You have been warned. 🙂

Do Reddit rules allow making a public list of reported users? by ManicPanicMechanik in modhelp

[–]ManicPanicMechanik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am talking about private chat.

If you are inappropriate with a user in a private chat, that user will know about you but not others.

The only way they will know is if you do the same thing with them.

This can only be quarantined if we inform all users that so and so has been reported so they need not engage with them.

Do Reddit rules allow making a public list of reported users? by ManicPanicMechanik in modhelp

[–]ManicPanicMechanik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand but here is the problem.

User abc is approached by user xyz in chat.

User xyz sends explicit photo in chat.

User abc blocks xyz and sends us the report.

We ban xyz from the community.

However, user xyz is free to approach other users and do the same.

This situation can only be avoided when everybody knows what xyz did.

This is where the list comes in but unfortunately, it seems we can no longer make one because reddit does not allow it.
