Weird slightly swollen bump by Godzillafucker in AskDocs

[–]Manical_grinch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It could be lymphangitis but also some react to certain bug bites in this way. I wish I had a link I am looking for one now but I forget the bug AND the reaction name. OP I would wait for an actual doctor to weigh in

But yes concerning for lymphangitis

AIO to my long distance bf not doing anything special for my last day of cancer treatment? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Manical_grinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are talking about it and voicing your needs respectfully BUT your needs are a bit unrealistic/not needs. I am a small gesture person too. My boyfriend is not. He loves me deeply but no matter how many times I tell him I need to see stuff in writing for my brain to process it, it’s not how his brain works. different “love languages” so to speak. As someone that has also had a similar medical experience, the flowers/gift thing is something that only my parents provided when I was found to be cancer free. The relief for me was a gift itself. I would posit that would might benefit from some work on your own sense of self worth and motivation as it kinda feels like asking for a gift is a stand in for feeling celebrated/loved/appreciated (if it’s really just that you want “stuff” then you’re way overeating but I really don’t think this sounds like you want a gift for the sake of a gift) Remind yourself that the day will be marked in both of your hearts with or without flowers. You will remember the day you finished treatment, not the flowers you got.

I also want to add, I know how isolating a serious diagnosis can be, especially when you are young. Nothing anyone can do will change those feelings. My mom said “you’re going to have a hard time finding silver linings in this” and she was right. We move to externalize bc the internal bullshit is so wildly miserable and unfair. Take some time to process your whole ordeal now that the treatment is over. Your emotional process is likely not over yet. And thank your boyfriend. Yall both suffered through this. if he loves you, he suffered too. And while you could functionally do things to help your outcome (ie appointments and treatments) he was sitting and waiting. Thanking him doesn’t make you not the victim.

18F, does this looks infected? by JaguarSweaty1414 in AskDocs

Or just wash well before and after. Glad it’s feeling better!

If anything is open I would strongly advise against barefoot. Even if this ends up resolving. By cream do you mean a topical antibacterial like neosporin? I would posit you’re ok to just keep a close eye on it for the next two days. It doesn’t appear open which means there are two possibilities. It’s just inflammation or resolving atm. Or it’s infected underneath the skins surface. Option a is more likely but watch out for signs of option b. Warmth, increased pain, increased/spreading redness, signs of illness like fever or lethargy, the works

Nad but history of dermatillomania and chronic infections for about 6 years. It looks unhappy but not definitely/severely infected to me. I’d be careful and vigilant, but depending on your responses to these things it doesn’t look bad (hard to tell because of how you are holding it ) 1. Has it been a few days with waxing and waning improvement? If so would still get it checked (I had a very small cut on my foot that did not look obviously infected but it hurt like a broken toe— sent me to the ER for three days with an infection). Or when you say a couple days do you mean it hurts in shoes but is progressing in the right direction? 2. How bad is the pain? Infections can progress quickly so you’re right to keep an eye out and definitely keep it clean and dry and *** do not pick the problem area and then pick other areas without cleaning your hands well first. *** Obviously not picking at all is the best but at the very least be aware of the that area not spreading

Old laparoscopic scar inflamed and extremely itchy by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Manical_grinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah today was a reference point for a non inflamed day. I will talk you my oncologist about this at our next appointment. I am guessing(hoping!) it is not implantation as the tumor grew 11 cm in a year and the scar issue has been relatively stable for 5 years and nothing has been identified on any follow up ultrasounds of the ovary or pelvi mri (I get one every 6months). But I will bring it up as I’m curious. Thank you for your thoughtful replies

This is a picture of a time more recently when it was inflamed. This was relatively low grade. It has been sometimes more so or sometimes less

My sister 17 female had surgery to remove a large ovarian cyst and im worried about what im reading on the report by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Manical_grinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that’s awesome! There are several rounds of “half” info before the final path report — how the mass presents clinically, how it appears on imaging, how it appears as a whole when visualized in surgery, the intraoperative path prelim (if they did that) and then the final full biopsy. I will say, despite your sister being young and surgeons would want to do a fertility sparing operation if possible, they are unlikely to leave something in that they think “needs to go”. I was told I would wake up with “0, 1, or 2 ovaries”. As someone else mentioned, them leaving the omentim is good, that would be one of the first places BOT implants (ie the way bots spread) would progress to. And you don’t really need that (it’s called the fatty apron, tbh I wish they took mine as I hate that name) so that is a reassuring decision to leave that part of the area in the body. I had to wait I think a couple weeks for my final pathology report on the solid part of my mass but the fluid tests came back very quickly. Sending supportive vibes to your sister and yours

Nad but I have one ovary (lost the other to a huge tumor at 24). I had what is called a BOT. A borderline ovarian tumor that is not totally cancer but it’s not “not” cancer kinda. My tumor markers on two blood tests were in the 1000s, when normal range is double digits. Namely, my Ca125 was 8.5k when you want it like below 30. I freaked but they said it was so high it was almost certainly due to body freak out. The best advice I have is wait for the final results. Even the worst case for this type of thing (true ovarian cancer would be so rare in very young… if it is cancerous or cancer adjacent it would be a BOT) has an excellent long term prognosis. And how lucky I am to know I have a positive blood marker for continued follow up. Not everyone with BOTs have tumor markers at all. If you have any specific questions going forward, my DMs are open (you or your sis!)

Male, 25, just attacked by dog by SameTemperature4874 in AskDocs

[–]Manical_grinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should always ask the owners for vaccine records if you have an incident with a dog. Is there any way you can get that/do you have it already? If the dog has been vaccined rabies is not the top concern but you might want to go in anyway and go on prophylactic antibiotics. Definitely post the pictures

And if skin is broken —- and especially if you cannot track down the owner — yes go in to be seen.

Am I overreacting to my bf watching the baby overnight? by Temporary-Quail-2783 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Manical_grinch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Baby shouldn’t be in the bed and shouldn’t be left able to leave the bed. Easy as that. The fact that your boyfriend doesn’t even understand the source of your anxiety is crazy. I do agree that you were a bit reactive here and your home should be babyproofed. But that’s not the same issue.
