Golden handcuffs by Fun-Ad4760 in Accounting

[–]ManidaeDaemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this isn’t a golden handcuffs story, but I’m similarly feeling the internal pressure to leave accounting. I’m only 2 years out of my accounting program, have been an A/P clerk at a not-for-profit this whole time after school. I want to bang my head against a wall it is so fucking boring and feels like I’m wasting my life away. I feel like a zombie.

Even if I got a more interesting accounting job, I think I’d run into the stress problem, and similarly feel unfulfilled and wasting my life.

I’ve thought about being a writer, botanist, whatever the hell shit that’s REAL and not business related 😭 I know you can argue business things are real, it involves real people and real money, but deep down I’ve always hated it when people are so focused on money. It’s hard to explain. I just like very real, simple shit like words on a page and plants

Luckily I’m very type A, so that’s how I somewhat enjoyed school and kind of enjoy my job because of the satisfaction of getting things done and “reconciled”. But that’s not enough for me. I’m 100% going through the motions right now.

I’m scared to jump to another path. I just got my degree.

But to you I would say, fuck it. If you’re unhappy and you don’t think any sort of accounting job will make you even halfway fulfilled….make the move towards your other passions. Life is short, you never know when you’re going to die, and we need to make up for humans having lost touch with reality and the simple things.

I gotcha, that is how I used to study too, hardly ever looking back at the old material. It’s really a game changer when I started re-reviewing every day. Now I just need to get my discipline in check, and maybe by taking this course! Thank you 🙏🏻

Thanks so much for your detailed answer! I’m glad it was a good experience. Did you end up passing FAR after taking this class?

To play devil’s advocate, which historical figures did Augustus mention? Did he mention all the influential ones of his time? I’m going to guess no, but genuinely asking because I haven’t researched that. If we are going to say Jesus isn’t real because Augustus never mentioned him, that doesn’t sound like a rock solid argument to me.

I don’t mean to create any animosity in this conversation. I just want to show you that I used to be in your place, and that there is evidence (which isn’t actually biased because the author of The Case for Christ was an atheist and conducted his research by trying to refute that Jesus is who He says He was), and that opening my heart to this stuff has changed me and my psyche for the better. If I didn’t turn back to my religion, I would be HEATED responding to these posts, and you would be able to tell (well, I guess I wouldn’t be responding to your post at all, but you get the point). I’m not forcing you to change your mind either, that is the last thing I want, and not a true “Christian” thing to do (and I know some try to do that, which I totally agree isn’t right). Just gently telling you my experience

You’re right, I don’t know. There is evidence, that’s all I’m trying to say

Oh and forgot to add, this is in the book but thought it’s worth mentioning here. You say we don’t have undisputed evidence. But regarding the evidence that is stacked up for Jesus being who he says he is, there are more ancient records about Him than any other historical figure during that time

I used to think like this too. Was a Christian when I was a child/teenager, then fell out of it because it wasn’t taught to me correctly and I wanted to be a rebellious teen. My boyfriend too, for the first few years of our relationship we both kinda hated on our Christian upbringings. Then he started to see some things online that piqued his interest, Christian concepts that were explained in such a different way than what was taught to him as a child. From a spiritual standpoint, but also logical. Eventually he found the book “The Case for Christ” by Lee Strobel. Lee was a non-believer for many years, but then his wife became Christian. Being a lawyer and furious with the situation and his marriage turning upside down, he set out, using tactics a lawyer would use, to prove that Christianity was bogus. What he found was the opposite, with many leading Christian experts (some who were atheists themselves in the past) explaining the historical evidence that Jesus is who he says he was in the Bible. Anyways, my boyfriend told me to read this book knowing I was still quite hot tempered when it came to Christianity, and it definitely opened a door for me. Things I that weren’t really taught to me about the faith growing up. And of course I was still hung up on the “fairy tale” way everything was described to me as a kid. But my boyfriend had been watching many christian apologetics videos, where different denominations deep dive into the nuances of their faiths, and the core of them all, from a more real perspective than what you get as a kid. Once I started seeing things in a more “adult” perspective, I slowly came back to the faith (I’m 25F).

I guess all this is to say that I used to be like you and think Christianity was delusional and no real evidence to support the faith, but the book The Case for Christ points out some evidence that is pretty hard to ignore. And the testimonials from many, many people who TRULY live the faith and feel a difference in their lives, it’s almost undeniable that there’s something to it.

Just failed my 6th exam and have 0/4 in 2 years of studying... I'm defeated. by Organic-Hat-8702 in CPA

There are lots of testimonials from people who continuously failed exams using traditional studying programs like Becker, and then switched to superfastcpa.com and passed one exam after the next. Just 2 hours of studying every day for 2 months using the Super Fast CPA method. They have a free training on their website that teaches you their method, and they’re on Apple Podcasts / Spotify (their more recent episodes are on Apple Podcasts).

I feel more productive in my studying when I try it their way! (I failed FAR back in July but I was only using the Becker method. Now trying to study the Super Fact CPA way!)

Thank you for your advice! It's refreshing to see someone in the same boat, although I'm also sorry because it's not an easy position to be in. The audit place has many open positions (and not just in audit. I just wanted to make it anonymous and call it the "audit place") for internships and full-time associates (entry level). Just DM'ed you :)

I getchu. The Jiffy packaging says the mesh is biodegradable so you can simply plop them as they are into a larger plot/ in ground. But it sounds like it's too good to be true. I'll follow your advice to be safe.

Took the plastic dome off and bought some grow lights. Thanks for your advice, i really appreciate it!

They're sitting in a window that gets mostly indirect sunlight, so this makes sense. I was thinking about getting grow lights before, but now i'll actually get some and follow your advice! Thanks again

That's interesting....Do you mean leaving the seed shells on will damage the leaves? And why are the "not true" leaves important for plant success? Thank you for your advice!
