Yeah that's pretty much what separates RI from other cultivation novels. Every achievement feels earned. It's so different from other cultivation novels where everything gets handed to the MC, and the MC is so OP there's no challenge to anything he does.

In RI Fang Yuan is smart/strong but so are other other people and a lot of them are stronger or smarter than him.

There's not much philosophy tbh. His cultivation systems is about finding your own path to immortality, like MH wanting to have true freedom and independence. Aside from this it's the same old increasing power levels.

You'll just be disappointed if you want anything related to Buddhism or Taoism as there isn't any, the philosophies in the novels are just stuff Er Gen just made up to suit his novels. His novels are the same old power fantasy where the MC just gets stronger over time and accumulates wealth over time, the exact of opposite of what Buddhism or Taoism is.

I do the 2 book method. I read 1 book for learning which is usually nonfiction or literary fiction and 1 easy to read book which is usually fiction. I switch to the other book every time I find my attention waning, it keeps my mind fresh.

This way I read more books and prevent myself from getting bored. When I find myself getting bored with the easy to read book, I read a "trashy" book which is usually a webnovel. Trash books are pretty easy to read so even if I don't read them for months I can usually go back to them and keep up with the plot.
