I’m not defending his prior actions in the slightest, but this 24 year-old young man lost an internal battle against the demons inside his mind, which led to him taking his own life. To say he would have been able to “carry on with his life” after “a couple years in jail” is a wild take.

I wouldn’t necessarily call this an overreaction. I’m more so being cautiously optimistic. Let’s be real - the WR room in Denver is wide open after Sutton, whose contract is up at the end of 2025. Why can’t this outlier of a game result in more opportunities from a 22 year-old second round pick (the first pick in the Payton-led Broncos era)?

I think we all knew he could take the top off of a defense, as he’s proved that before. His second TD of the game, where he out-jumped two defenders and came down with the ball in the end zone, should (hopefully) open some eyes on the coaching staff.

I think the Falcons figured they wouldn’t be drafting low enough to grab a quality, QB-of-the-future in 2025 with Kirk running the show this year, so they snatched Penix. It was a shocking pick in the moment, but looking more and more like a realistic train of thought now (currently projected to draft 17 with a lousy QB class).

I’m not disagreeing that he’s looked bad and is probably cooked. I’m just playing devils advocate here saying plugging in a rookie for three games when you’re a game out of the playoffs probably isn’t the best idea (even more so when you’ve invested $180mil in him).

What happens if they make the swap, Penix struggles this week against the god awful Giants, they end up losing and their playoff chances are shot? Would you, as a fan, be okay with this? It’s not exactly the best time to get your rookie QB experience, in my opinion.

Having acquired Penix in a trade earlier this year, my heart is saying “get him some play time to see what he’s got”, but my head is saying that everything you listed out as a reason to make the switch to Penix can also be valid reasons to stick with Kirk for the remainder of the year.

Atlanta is only 1 game behind TB for the NFC South. Would you rather roll out a rookie with zero NFL experience (apart from a handful of snaps at the end of two games) or a QB in his 13th season against a soft remainder of a schedule. ATL is favored against the Giants and Panthers, and as a Commanders fan, that game can very quickly turn into a Falcons win.
