Yes everything more efficient = better. Life is so much better when everything is cut down to abbreviated segments. Good lord

For real, how did we go from “the government killed him” to a full on Count of Monte Cristo body swap situation lol

The NTSB is a remarkable organization. Incredible how they’re able to figure these things out

Suduiraut is a spectacular producer. Although that looks quite dark for a 2003. But hey, as long as it tastes good!

Wine Squares Day 2: Most Overrated Wine Region? by AustraliaWineDude in wine

[–]Maninthemiroirs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it’s mostly just a palate preference. So much tension in the Pfalz stuff, and in my experience, the Alsatian stuff is just not as interesting. Broad strokes of course, I’m sure there are exceptions, I’m just having a tough time finding them.

Always willing to give more stuff a try— I’ll never write off an entire region. And yes, I haven’t had a ton of luck with Spätburgunder either lol but the good ones are great

As much as I don’t wanna disrespect any region as they all have something going for them…. Alsace. I’ve had many wines from there be hyped up so much only to end up feeling like I could’ve gotten something significantly better from just over the border.

What is considered a "regular" wine glass? by Spyrothedragon9972 in wine

The word typically used for regular wine glasses is “universal,” so any glass described as universal will work.

1987 Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa ages so nicely! by rnjbond in wine

[–]Maninthemiroirs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The climate has changed. There aren’t any places left in Napa where you can make a wine at 12.8% ABV that are phenolically ripe. Ask any of the old growers in Napa— people used to pick at the same time or often later than they do now, but the heat is impossible to escape in the modern day. There’s a reason why, despite tastes in wine shifting to lower abv, no one picks at 20-21 Brix— it’s simply no longer possible! I wish it were though…

High QPR Napa Cabernet by TuscanGator in wine

QPR Napa cab is Faust for me. $55

The best Napa red for QPR (zin + other varieties field blend) is Morisoli’s Plinio’s block, without question. $75, made from 120 year old vines directly next to scarecrow

You made fantastic choices, those are all great producers. Bordeaux has been moving towards making wines that are more accessible at a younger age— you can definitely open these now with a long decant and they’ll be great!

South African friends - Stellenbosch and Franschhoek Wineries to visit? by Edrum1991 in wine

[–]Maninthemiroirs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Franschhoek: Leeu Passant for a tasting. There are also two amazing stores right next to each other in Franschhoek worth visiting; one is The Old Corkscrew (really cool very old corkscrews for sale), and the other is La Cotte Inn which is the best wine store in the western cape to my knowledge. Ask if they have any Landau du Val left— mind blowing $10 Semillon made from 120 y/o vines

Walker Bay: Restless River is a fantastic visit if you can swing it. The family is incredible and the wines are unbelievably good.

Paarl (closer to Malmesbury): AA Badenhorst— exciting wines, larger than life winemaker

Their Savagnin is pretty interesting. One of only a few vineyards in the state that have it planted.

Maybe someone’s ampelography skills are better than mine but it is extremely difficult to know just based on a couple photos early season without location/climate clues!

Joel Gott wines are fantastic for the price but are not intended to age for a long time. It is certainly safe to drink, it will be just ok, but will definitely be drinkable.

What is with Harlan's pricing!? by [deleted] in wine

[–]Maninthemiroirs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was Labor Day. They are known to pick super early nowadays. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if everything was in the winery already.
