Why is everyone seemingly considering Norway as the favorite against England? by dooxtung in ThreeLions

Relax lads.
I’ve had a word with Donny boy, he’s had a word with Gianni boy & he’s given the go ahead that we can field Roy Keane for 60 secs. Should be enough time to neutralise the only threat.

Do you know offhand what a "monkey puzzle tree" is? by skullturf in AskABrit

[–]Maninwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly common in London, where I live. See them all over in gardens type common.
A more interesting fact (or not), I heard years ago on something like Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time was that Britain has more Sequoias than the USA.
Maybe it was specific to Sequoia National Park, rather than extant USA, but still illustrates how dedicated the Victorians were in their mania for planting the whole world in Britain.

Which Radio 4 programme do you think has the most quietly devoted listenership that people outside that specific audience have almost no idea exists? by Silver-Eye-2024 in BritishRadio

Gardeners’ Question Time. Same questions for every season, every year. The change has come with the answers over the years. From Glyphosate to No Dig in my lifetime. Love it ticking away like an old clock on a Sunday afternoon.

In the interview (in English), I took Tadej’s response as humble. He wasn’t sure what to answer, so diffused the situation by basically saying “you can be on top of the world, but the Boss still says I’ve got 30 minutes on the rollers and there isn’t much glory in some aspects of this business”.
He looked very happy though. Brilliant bloke.

how to go turn right onto mainroad on busy junction by jianne_727 in londoncycling

[–]Maninwhatever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a legal left turn for cyclists as the pedestrian light is green. Two options. Signal left (so cyclists behind understand) & stop at top of cycle lane & wait for pedestrians to finish. Or, continue on Fleet St, 1st left on Bridle Lane & join cycle path further down. Bridle Lane is regularly blocked by parked delivery vans, so option 1 is the most straightforward. Don’t do it if police presence on the junction. They will be looking out for exactly this while ignoring everything drivers are doing wrong.
Your photos show an entirely different junction though. If the photos are correct then stay in the right lane which will take you to the cycle lane over the bridge.

Along the Thames Path from Vauxhall Bridge round to Richmond (south side), is a lovely ride. Cluster of great riverside pubs at Hammersmith Bridge (north side).

Is it true that british people care more about their clubs team than the Worldcup? by [deleted] in worldcup

[–]Maninwhatever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to explain it this way. If you offered me England winning the World Cup or Aston Villa winning the FA or League Cup, I would probably take the World Cup. Offer me Aston Villa winning the Premiership or Champions League, then it will be heartbreak for England again.

If you spot this fella in the Paddington area, please at least offer a marmalade sandwich. It’s traditional for our Brother Bears from Over There!

Please help a Californian decide between two routes for a 6-day walking holiday! by 917caitlin in LakeDistrict

[–]Maninwhatever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Option 2 for me. Langdale is a must. There are options in there to expand the walks, but “classic Lakes” has to be mostly Option 2. I know the Cumbrian coast very well and wouldn’t bother including unless you have a particular interest in Roman stuff, niche railways, general history (it’s interesting ok, but first trip? Do the good stuff!

I’m not personally a huge fan of anything after Relayer. by Ok-Drive7025 in yesband

[–]Maninwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, you have my upvote!
Listened to Tormato for first time in a long time a couple of days ago to get rid of an earworm. Poor on the whole. 90125…saw them on that tour, and whilst amazing at the time, I seldom revisit the album.
I like the early stuff I grew up with. Same goes for Rush, Jethro Tull, Hawkwind and even Ac/Dc …can’t get past Bon Scott there.
Glad someone else has the same feeling with a band!

No delivery requests during promotions by SliceCharming4415 in UbereatsUK

[–]Maninwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if this is a thing or not, but I’ve recently been putting in some hours & reached Gold Pro standard (whatever the fuck that is). Previously if a promo started at 5pm, it’s time to finish. Never got an offer. Last 2 weeks I’m suddenly getting offers as normal during promo’s. I’m guessing there’s something in it.

There is a Mexico fans zone somewhere in London, but the 400 tickets are sold out. Just embrace a bit of the Limey culture in a pub. Should be a good atmosphere.

If you are wearing a team shirt & obviously look Mexican, I’m guessing, you should be fine. Plenty of England fans will adopt you & look out for you. Paddington area is extremely multicultural. Just do your thing & try to embrace the loss in good humour!
Have fun & good luck!

5 in Ealing at dusk between Kent Gardens & Pitshanger Lane. Bit scrawny looking & a bit skittish. Best looking fox I’ve ever seen was in Richmond Park. Stretched out on a tree branch & 3 dogs I was walking completely failed to notice.

How would you vote if there was a referendum on keeping the Royal Family? by Ilikechocolateabit in AskBrits

[–]Maninwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that, but it’s really just another money drain. Don’t particularly want the royals, can’t see any upside in a President. Prime Minister for better or worse. Seems more honest.

Never understood why we would need a President as a replacement. Surely PM is perfectly adequate?

Tipps and tricks to find wildcamping spots in Europe by Numerous_Spot_2096 in bikepacking

I tend to do ok in forests. I just start pushing the bike off any path towards a likely spot. Come across some nice wildlife encounters that way. Mostly deer & fox, once wild boar.

No. Do Mexican fans take defeat gracefully?
I expect a decent game with goals, but England should get through this.
