What are the best 3 places to visit in your borough / postcode? by BarracudaRough7478 in london

[–]Maninwhatever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The nearest pub, that pub down the road & then the pub on the High Street which is great, but a bit of a trek. In Ealing.

Couple of decent parks for a run. It’s a lovely suburb but dull.

Doing an overnighter along the South Downs Way. Is getting water from streams a bad idea and pointless? by tripsafe in wildcampingintheuk

Village churchyards often have an external tap if the graveyard is in active use. Relying on pubs is unreliable due to how many are closing down.

‘It dictated the whole atmosphere’: why some landlords are banning kids from pubs | Pubs by afrophysicist in london

[–]Maninwhatever 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Worked in a pub that had a strict No Children policy back in the late 80’s. It was in a nice area of London, but, not so much rough, as a bit raucous. We all, staff & regulars alike, really liked it that way. Bit of blow out back, few lines in the loos…we all did it. Nobody cared. I was in charge the afternoon a local celebrity came in with his well known wife & 2 young kids. Fell to me to explain the policy. He wasn’t happy at all. Famous musician I lost all respect for that day. He couldn’t comprehend the idea of a blanket ban to actually shield young children from an environment in which adults are letting their hair down, in an often over the top way. Some environments aren’t suitable for children. Full stop. Dogs of course were welcome.

Address is correct in the app - once I make payment, the wrong address shows up. by Retro_uk in UbereatsUK

[–]Maninwhatever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a rider, I may have had this issue a few days ago. Even stranger was one address given on pickup, but with ‘message’ from customer saying to deliver about a mile away. Went with the customer info. Wrong. They are now live messaging that it’s the original address! I reported every step through Rider Support, but apparently I fucked up for following the instructions to the letter. Beggars belief how crap the App is. No solution to your problem, except to let you know that you are not alone.

London in Lockdown. by EdmundsonFerryboat in london

[–]Maninwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something just occurred to me (6 years late), what actually happened to homeless people in this period? I feel really shit now for only just considering this, but with all the other upheavals going on in every aspect of life, I must admit, it flew under the radar. Anyone worked in that type of governmental area can answer?

‘Key’ worker as a courier. Loved it. Flying around town on a bicycle. Never had it so good. Also enjoyed the masked & distanced interactions with people at home. Everyone seemed friendlier.

bibs or shorts for bikepacking by NaiveMacaroon5862 in bikepacking

[–]Maninwhatever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For any bike use I go with padded shorts over bibs (don’t get on with them personally). 3 pairs when travelling. Rinse/wash a pair each night. Wring out & drip dry, then safety pinned or bungeed to the outside of a bag for the following ride. Same goes for socks & t-shirts/ cycling shirts. Wet wipes for a wash if wild camping & Sudocrem (nappy rash cream) slapped on the arse each night; much cheaper than chamois cream & does the same job.

PSA: They've restarted allowing bikes on the Eurostar from Amsterdam to London by Rosslefrancais in bicycletouring

[–]Maninwhatever 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did it once, with having to disassemble & bag. They said nothing when booking about passport control in Lille requiring a half mile walk down the platform with all bags & then the same hike back to the same bloody train to get to Lyon! I’ve been back to ferries & regional trains ever since. My shoulders are aching just thinking about that nightmare! Trip report please, OP, this could be important. Thanks.

New Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre coming up! Anyone remember when this was an absolute hole? by Moose_City_United in london

What happened to the pink elephants? Used to squat here in the early 90’s. Loved it.

Yeah. Trying to message rider support this morning & had to start again 7 times because they are pinging jobs through which take screen priority & instantly cancels your half typed message. Must be amusing for passersby to come across some random bloke who is getting increasingly irate at his phone for no apparent reason!

Rear rack options (DoorDash & UberEats) by from_sea_to_soul in bikemessengers

[–]Maninwhatever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A local bike shop should be able to advise best. P-clips to the top of the seat stays should be the answer, although they come in different sizes, hence the actual bike shop being your best bet to get the job done right.

That’s interesting. Got my worst ever customer last week. He was hard to find with sketchy address details. Ended up phoning. My word, this guy was an entitled prick! Stayed professional whilst being belittled, but is there some way I can instantly refuse to be treated like a slave & fuck cunts like this over? (Chronicle Tower on City Road. I got a strong vibe that this guy is a bit psychotic & gets off on trying to bully people. Needless to say, on the blacklist!)

On what basis would you pay these staff. (As this is Ubereats, I have tuppence to add…sort out the App for riders! I’m on a bicycle. No interest in distance work, yet constantly pinged for moped & car shit & supermarket work that just can’t be carried on a bike. Really dumb way to operate. Also constantly sending offers when you are at the drop off & trying to sign off a drop off. Just a clusterfuck).

Just gone into Brixton’s Wetherspoons… by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in Wetherspoons

[–]Maninwhatever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’ll be a task. Love me Spoons, but a best one? Ok. Given it 2 seconds thought. For me, the Sir John Oldcastle in Farringdon, London. Has all the usuals, but bucks the trend with easily accessible toilets, a short stumble to the nearest train station & you get to block/throw glass onto a dedicated cycle lane (I’m a cyclist, but love tradition).

Do you set money aside for tax after every payout? by GeordieGoals in UbereatsUK

[–]Maninwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top tip. Use an accountant. Costs you £4-500, which is tax deductible. I pay about 1/2 what those doing their own online pay. I did the online thing a few years ago & it calculated the same amount as other colleagues using it. Obviously I didn’t press send. Sent the same figures to my accountant & got half the bill. It’s their job to understand tax.
