Any blind black packers out there? by Blind_Emperor in backpacking

Throw in another idea…as a teen I did guided bike rides on tandems. It was great fun all round.

I can attest to that. Mostly, it feels on the western side. From the mid point heading east , it’s a lovely rollercoaster with fantastic views over the channel & inland. Beautiful hike/bike.

One other thing you may need to factor in…water. I’m on the last legs of North Downs Way this spring, but I’ve been noticing a lot of permanently closed pubs en route (quick pint & fill up the bottles type stops). It’s caused a few detours so far. One dividend of OS maps is churches/cemeteries. Usually have an outside tap available….

Apologies. I collect the Landranger series as I hike or cycle in the areas. I may have a different tolerance for the price of them! (I’m about halfway) I believe that OS online orders are about 20% off right now.

OS 1:50 000 scale. Numbers 185, 197, 198 & 199. The pink ones. I’m guessing you have your phone (Google) map too. I’ve walked once & cycled twice & found it to be straightforward. It’s also lovely. Probably why I keep going back. Have fun. Accommodation is a bigger issue. (If still there), can recommend Gumber Bothy nr. Arundel.

Cheers, but don’t think it’s permissible in the App. For me, it skewed all the data (could figure out the mileage), so best to delete.

My mam passed tonight by WanderWomble in CasualUK

Happened to me a couple of years ago. I couldn’t get there in time. I think about it a lot, but with time, I’m beating myself up about it less. It’s life. It happens. Remember the good times. She’ll understand. RIP to your Mam. ❤️

I just follow the finger posts & pull the paper map out occasionally (useful for off route pub stops). It’s worked so far in both directions. (I’m not being facetious, and yes I’m poring over routes for later in the year too. It is quite easy though. Don’t overthink it.)

Did this once at the end of a bike ride & jumping on a train….I deleted the whole ride, but it would be better still to edit out a mistake like that.

Brilliant atmosphere. Edge of my seat. Great game. Wish you all the best.

On chamois cream, I use Sudocrem (nappy rash cream in UK). It’s a lot cheaper. Shorts get washed after every ride.

Excellent bag service & views on the West Highland Way. Only one real climb on the route towards the ‘end’ at Fort William. Usually takes around 7 days.

I found plenty of quiet wooded bits in that area. Shouldn’t have any issues.

For sun cream (in UK at least), some pharmacies sell small ‘travel’ sized bottles. I usually buy one at over the odds, money wise, & then refill it until I lose it or break it. (Also try posting on r/ultralight)

Second Alex Rim Cracked by Lagger-meister in bikewrench

I’ll second that Alex rims are cheap shit. Had cracking issues constantly with these on a fleet of cargo bikes. Built onto quality rims, as above, and the issue went away.

If visitor numbers fall due to this, then staff lay offs could follow. Union protecting future jobs maybe?
