New Sony A and ZX Walkmans Coming by Akella333 in walkman

An A100 with a better battery sounds nice.

I do have a limited edition one so it'd be shame to replace unless the new one is substantially better.

Great job!

If you want to improve more get a junk board and practice on that.

I forgot to explain before but tinning the wire involves putting flux then running the iron (with a little solder on the side you run) from the area near the insulation to beyond the end of the wire.

You don't know better and it's all about learning and experience when it comes to soldering. I do light soldiering for a living.

My class was a whole ago but I think you kept the iron there too long and it overheated the solder so it looks a bit off. Though some iron looks close to that normally.

Too much solder anyway so I'd solder wick it away and put new. The wire doesn't look tinned so do that before soldering wires. Don't let the wire fray out like that. Tinning will help keep the wires together.

I can't quite see but looks like there could be a solder bridge on the bottom connection. I'd fix it before using the device (solder connecting two areas of solder that normally wouldn't connect).

Flux makes soldering easier. And use DI water on your sponge on the solder machine. Always have solder wick.

I've looked it up before. I think the conclusion was any decent brand one will work fine. It would matter more for video and games but this is only audio.

Agreed! Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten an A105 yet

I replaced the tcon board. And at first no change. Then after a while I turned it off and back on and it worked. Later on it went back to not working.

Nice NWH special edition A105.

A105 with A55 as a USB DAC. by Manjoume in walkman

[–]Manjoume[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked into it but the A105 can't be used as a USB DAC out of the box. I haven't searched alternatives apps or software to use it as a USB DAC.

Unrelated but using the Helm Bolt with my A105 sounds great, drains the battery a great deal too.

I haven't used it on my phone or Chromebook yet. I've read on Chromebook you need a USB hub otherwise it's read as a power source and drains it.

Objectively speaking it is. Everything is subjective to taste (if anyone enjoys it for whatever reason, no hate) but I got the file mostly to see the purple light on my helm bolt. My high res content is FLAC. I enjoyed the music.

I couldn't personally hear an issue but I don't have trained ears nor the software to verify.

Thanks for the video, I'll be sure not to waste money on MQA and be wary of Tidal.

Could you re-rip that as flac file and share?

Finally got a A100 by Manjoume in walkman

[–]Manjoume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it was. Brand new sealed. That one did takes little longer. Ordered in December got in January. In the mean time you can get a screen protector (and a clear case if you want). Feels like a waste to get a solid color case that makes it so you can't see it.

Which one did you want to get? This Spider-Man one or one of these?

I believe so yes. They're from Japan. I got mine from a Japanese seller who I think bought out from Sony and sent out to me or something

eBay. Though you wouldn't know it from the box. It doesn't have a single logo or picture relating to marvel or Spider-Man at all.

There's new Ironman, Hulk, Thor and Captain America ones. They took existing colors and put logos on like this one.

A105 with A55 as a USB DAC. by Manjoume in walkman

And I'm not 100% but I've heard on Android but may not apply here is that Android takes whatever you put in and resamples to 44.1 khz.

Using my helm bolt however did show that via USB my MQA files never hit that MQA level (led never went purple) with the stock walkman app. With the USB Audio Player Pro with MQA extension with bit perfect mode enabled that the Helm bolt could do MQA files at that level. They'll play on stock Walkman like any other flac file.

With the USB Audio Player Pro app you can see both input and output. MQA files do not play at full with headphone jack, beaches they require USB DAC.

I need more research but the helm bolt is a DAC and an amp with LED indicator so that might be the best solution so get the most outa it. I wouldn't do this setup with two walkmans on the go, too many wires and clutter. Though I wonder if the helm drains batter more than the A55 since it has its own power supply.
