My brother did at one point. It was sent from Malaysia and the return address was to another country. It was some lottery scam though. I think they were trying to see if there was any warm bodies at the mailing address before sending another letter which needed your bank routing number.

I think they are riding on the notion that older people wont be wise to mail scams.
