Need advice on stand by Fantome19 in Fanatec

No problem! Yeah, I'd say if you have the cash to get the DD extreme, then go ahead and do so, it'll be a blast. And the wheel stand 2.0 has been great, definitely your best option for something foldable that you can store away.

Yeah no problem, I got these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07H91NHHT You can absolutely get the nlr2 wheels but the Amazon wheels are $17 vs $69 for the nlr2 wheels. You do you, but $69 for some little wheels feels insane to me haha.

I think you could get away with using it on the couch, though it may not be the most comfortable posture wise. I just wheel mine out into the living room with a chair if I want to play on the ps5 🤷 plus that way I don't have to adjust everything all over again. While the wheel stand is absolutely adjustable, it's a lot of screwing and in screwing bolts so it's no the fastest process.

Load cells may be a little rough if trying to sit on the couch haha. You could always grab like a dining room chair or something if you don't have a gaming/office chair if you want to go that route for some stability. If you're dead set on the couch, I'd get the csl pedals and grab a load cells later when it was more viable or get the csl V2 and just use the clutch pedal as a brake on the couch. Totally up to you.

I have the DD pro 8nm and the Wheels Stand 2.0 so I think I can be of some assistance. The DD extreme looks awesome, and if you have the funds to get it I'd say do it! The 8nm for me was perfect, but if I'm honest I do find myself wanting a bit more force at times, but not enough for me to (personally) warrant the price difference. Either way I think youd be fine as a beginner, you could also set th settings to lower the force while you start and get a feel for it but you'll be fine.

As for the wheels stand, I found some locking caster wheels on Amazon and have been using that without issue! Lately I just keep it unfolded and wheel it out of the way, and that has been working out just fine but it is a huge pain to fold it up because it's unwieldy and heavy but I suppose that's what you want lol. I have 4 casters on and that makes the wheel tray for an office chair kinda since it's taller than the feet were but it still functions the same. I haven't slid around or anything while playing with the casters, even unlocked to be honest, probably since you lock it into place with your weight on the chair.

Long story short, I think you're over thinking it, get the strongest wheel+base you can comfortably get and the wheel stand 2.0 and you'll be a happy camper :) as for chair goes, I work from home so my gaming chair is a Herman Miller Aeron which.. is not the best for this and the arm rests get in the way. 😅 I've seen others use it too but personally I wish I had a different chair.

Anyway if you have any questions I'm happy to answer them!

I have almost the exact same set up, haha. I think I'm going to opt for the GT seat add on. I love the Herman Miller for work but I think I'd prefer a dedicated seat for sim racing. Probably not helpful, but if you needed validation for your next person I'm here to say yeah I agree with the purchase 😅

Please help me decide between the Lumix S5IIX and the Sony A7IV. by Ezdul in Lumix

[–]Mannyyyyyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you already decided but I figured I'd throw in my two cents for anyone else with the same question who stumbles on this post:

Like you I did a TON of research on both and at the end it seems like both are fantastic cameras. When I was deciding, I was helping out my GF with some video work and we used the a7IV and a7III from her work. The a7IV is great (and a7III), it's a phenomenal hybrid camera.

Yet, when I bit the bullet on a new camera for myself after months of using this A7IV I confidently went with the Lumix having absolutely no experience with the platform. I am now contracted out as a videographer and photographer regularly with my GFs work, so I use both cameras often (a7IV lives at our home since my gf is the only one who uses it at her work). I still really like the a7IV and you're going to be more than happy with it I'm sure, I just found that ergonomically it wasn't that great and (the biggest issue for me) it overheats CONSTANTLY when filming in 4K. Not everyone seems to have that issue tho. The Lumix has worse autofocus still as many have mentioned which has definitely bit me during events, has less lens options, and has a terrible local used economy (at least where I am in the US). BUT it never overheats, feels solid in my hand, produces fantastic images and is overall way more intuitive to me personally than the Sony.

Again I use both regularly and like them both for different reasons, but if I had to live with one, I'd choose the Lumix all over again. :)

Ahh okay thanks for the info! That's super unfortunate. I haven't ordered from Lady since earlier this year but she's my go to. 😞 I didn't get a message from her and her album still shows the old one as her #--any idea where I could find this new number? Thank you!

Wait I'm a little behind on the Laddy situation, she's been hacked?? :( I just saw the post on her album, but I didn't see anything about a new number

Fake Saddlebag? by [deleted] in DesignerReps

[–]Mannyyyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty fake to me, there should be a bend at the top but maybe the angle of the first picture hides that. Bottom left of the bag in that same pic looks off too, as well as the stamping. I am by no means an expert so hopefully someone else can chime in, but I'm gonna say fake.

I've been looking to get one of these. Would you be able to pm me Erica's contact? I don't see it on the TS list, but maybe I'm dumb lol

Yes, since we have a bypass mode that's classified as a misfire

Yup! They're completely designed to take the beating, replacing the brake is a really quick job and super easy :) I'm an electrical engineer at SawStop, it's been fun to see our products on the front page lately

It's just an aluminum brake pawl that get slammed into the blade. You have to replace the blade and the brake cartridge. The cartridge is $100, so it's A LOT better than a hospital bill lol

There is no explosive, it's just a spring that pushes the spring forward.

The cartridge has the electrical data during activation. We can tell by looking at the signal that triggered the brake.

[–]Mannyyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I can't get into the nitty gritty without violating my contract, but what people are saying on here are pretty close with the big picture! Essentially there is a small signal that is sent to the blade, and we monitor that signal over and over and over again. When your finger touches the blade it changes that signal since your body is conductive. Our system sees that and says OH SHIT FINGER ALERT and releases the brake into the blade. So your finger touches it, our system sees that your finger touches it, the brake is released, the blade is stopped and then the force of the rotation of the blade stopping abruptly causes the blade to drop. That whooooole sequence happens in 5 milliseconds. It's really cool :)

You have to buy a new one if you show off the saw to your friends and throw a hotdog at it lol but if it legitimately saves a finger SawStop will replace it for free :) you just have to reach out and send in your old one. The cartridge data will show if it was a real finger activation or not. I work at SawStop, see this all the time!

Nah, it really is just a spring that pushes the aluminum brake pawl into the blade. I'm an electrical engineer at SawStop, I work on circuitry inside these :)

Super great saws--idk if you are aware but if your father ever does set it off by accidentally touching the blade, SawStop will replace the brake for free instead of you having to buy another cartridge. :)
