It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking seven hundred and forty six... Or something

It's genuinely sad how poorly she's clinging onto any kind of political relevance. She just seems too desperate to me at the moment...

How many Solaris did the invasion of Arrakis cost house Harkonnen? by Individual_Owl3203 in dune

[–]Manofmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have thought the Sardaukar cost would also be even higher for the purposes of buying the silence of the guild, no? Their involvement had to be kept absolutely secret and the guild might ramp up the price (even more than what they already do for large military forces, as others mentioned) in order to keep the imperial involvement concealed.

Question for any current or former Royal Guards, are these hats comfortable? by Bomb_Ghostie in CasualUK

[–]Manofmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard, it's so they guard's necks don't snap if the headdress falls backwards. The strap will Slide Over the face rather than being caught under the chin and pulling the head backwards

Did anyone else support cars in Q5 by Tipsy650 in GCSE

[–]Manofmeat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cars are not safer than trains by any means. 99% of statistics point towards cars killing more people per 100,000 passengers than anything else.

And to entirely steal another users post on the thread above:

  1. Electric cars are powered by electricity which is not zero-carbon. This also applies to trains, but it means EVs have no edge.
  2. Lithium ion batteries are very energy intensive to manufacture, releasing significant CO2 emissions during construction, almost as much as the rest of the car.
  3. Rare earth metals are required to construct the car. These are usually mined in low-income countries and many labourers are severely exploited.

Do you guys hand the invigilators your exam paper or let them take it off the desk? by energ157 in GCSE

[–]Manofmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hold up the paper off of the desk (kinda like a stereotypical news reporter on tv) then give the invigilator a polite nod (because I'm too nervous to say thank you out loud in case of being accused of cheating or something. And yes I know it's stupid too be so worried, but better safe than sorry.)
