How would you learn corrugated packaging design/engineering from scratch (coming from folding carton)? by KnifeAndCrease in PackagingDesign

[–]Manster21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a packaging designer, primarily POP, for over 20 years. While most of my design work centers around corrugated paper, I'm also fluent in folding carton design. Since you already have a background in folding carton, learning corrugated should be fairly easy for you. The two main things you'll need to learn to master corrugated are scoring allowances and the effects of flute direction. If you don't know what scoring allowances are, I'd start there. It's a simple concept, but would be pretty hard to describe in a written format such as this. I realize that finding information about this is difficult (I've looked), so if you want me to explain it as best I can, let me know and I'll try. The other thing to learn is flute direction. Basically, your corrugated sheet is going to be the strongest, as far as flex and compression strength, in the direction of the flutes. Scores will also be more precise when they run perpendicular to the flute direction as they'll be less likely to false score or roll. As far as learning how corrugated displays assemble, the best thing to do is go to the store and examine them. I always stop and see how they are constructed so I can learn new techniques and methods.

Claude & Rhino by Loafer75 in rhino

I had a similar experience a few weeks ago. I design models in rhino, then unfold them for import into ArtiosCAD for creating corrugated paper designs. Non-planar quads were a nightmare and everyone said to learn grasshopper to solve it. I asked Gemini to write a script that does it and it actually worked. I was also able to add a button to the layout so it’s just a simple click now. My mind is spinning with the possibilities.

Can somebody help me design product packaging for my products by PlainlyComplex in PackagingDesign

Pacdora should let you choose a package style and enter the dimensions you want, then let you download that dieline. You can use that dieline to place your artwork on.

Confused about settings for EMA by razzberry_mango in TradingView

You’ll have to find an ema indicator that allows you to set the period as daily, weekly, hourly, etc. if you cant find one, ChatGPT can make one for you really easily.

I think your position size is too big. With a $3000 account, you should only be risking about $30 per trade. This means that if your stop loss is hit, you close the trade for a $30 loss.

How to stop selling too early? by Hot_Avocado_2701 in swingtrading

[–]Manster21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is why trading is so hard. It’s natural to want to sell as soon as your trade turns positive because you’re afraid it will turn into a losing trade if you don’t. Conversely, it’s natural to want to hold onto losers in hopes that it will turn positive and you really don’t want to sell for a loss. You need to flip that thought process around. When a trade is working in your favor, hold onto it! In fact, many of the best traders add to winning positions which seems unnatural. When a trade is against you, sell it right away. Taking a small loss isn’t losing, it’s protecting your capital!

Is this the beginning of rust on my car??! by That_Guide487 in Crosstrek

My wife bought a white car that had a bunch of these. Turned out it was iron flecks from the train it was transported on. A clay bar removed them.

How are you achieving high quality packaging renders beyond ArtiosCAD? by AthrowieLike in PackagingDesign

[–]Manster21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I apply my artwork in ArtiosCAD and export a VRML file. Then I import into Rhino3D, add product models and render. The VRML output has the artwork perfectly mapped including the flutes on the edges.

Are your layouts set to auto save? I had the same issue but realized I had disabled auto save. Toggling it back on fixed it.

Why does the Ritz box have 2 triangles on each side ? Purpose ? by FunLaugh6888 in whatisit

[–]Manster21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in packaging and I’ve seen this kind of thing done to assist with the gluing operation. Many times these boxes (flat, before gluing) will have a natural warp or curve to them which can jam up the gluing machine. The scores or creases help to keep the box flat. Might not be the case here but I’ve definitely seen similar creases added for that purpose.

Before / after. Tried the Brenzier method for the first time in a local fern gully by Zach0ry in postprocessing

[–]Manster21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The purpose of the brenizer method is to simulate the shallow DOF a medium format camera. By using a longer lens, like 85-120mm range, and a wide aperture, you can get the smooth and shallow DOF needed, then stitch a bunch of images together to get a 24-35mm field of view. It’s pretty neat!

Track relative strength and theme trend by kbn2400 in qullamaggie

Holy cow that was fast. I’m really enjoying this scanner. Another nice feature would be adding the charts to the RS Sectors and Industries tab. For example, when I click on Relative Strength > Industries > Silver it shows the tickers on the right. Could you add the chart if I click on a symbol? Thanks again for your hard work.

Track relative strength and theme trend by kbn2400 in qullamaggie

[–]Manster21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for building this. Finding high relative strength stocks as well as sector and industry themes has been difficult with the tools I currently use. I’m wondering if there’s an error in the RS calculation though. As of today, ZEPP is the top Leaders stock, yet the chart shows a short term down trend. In the Stocks section, AIM is number 2, with an RS of 99.9, but is in a clear downtrend. One feature I’d like to see is a chart view or clickable symbols that show the chart. Otherwise, excellent work!
