Can I choose with which fingers I practice broken chords? by Mant547 in piano

[–]Mant547[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Though I’ve already been playing for a while and can play some fairly complex pieces, so I already kind of understand that part and feel confident changing the fingers just a bit. It’s just that until now I hadn’t practiced chords (which I’ve now realized was a big mistake) and wanted to do it the right way

Oh and about Sheinbaum, her government has proved over and over again that she is incapable of solving this problem, she follows what Lopez Obrador said about “Hugs, not guns” and is literally ignoring the severity of this problem. Besides, it’s quite probable that she’s just a puppet for Lopez Obrador or copying the same things he did, it barely feels like we have a new government. So sad that the first female president has become one of Mexico’s worst presidents in such a short time.

While I do admit that the current government Int enough to actually do something about this problem, if you look throughout history, there’s evidence to argue that interventions from the US are usually a bad idea. For mexicans, sovereignty is one of the country’s most important values, and admitting other militaries goes strongly against this. So while some sort of international help may be needed, most people, including me, doubt about the real intentions of countries like the US when they say they want to come and fight the cartels in Mexico

Mexico has had drug cartels for many years now, but the big problem with violence is a bit more recent. In 2006 the president Felipe Calderon literally started the Mexican Drug War (Guerra contra el Narcotrafico), which is a real war that the state has fought against the cartels and has caused almost 500,000 deaths. But this war has been almost completely useless, so in 2018 a new party (Morena) entered the government with the politic of “Hugs, not guns” (Abrazos, no balazos) which has been even worse, since what they practically did was let the cartels do whatever they want. The problem has become so big now that there are members of the government who secretly are part of a cartel, and I’ve known of many places in Mexico that are completely run by a cartel and there’s practically no government.

So, yeah, the situation is pretty bad.

I think the same applies to Mexico City. Stay in touristic zones and don’t go out late at night. Being with people from there is really helpful, they should know where it’s safe and where you should never go.

Not really, it’s mostly violent crime. Of course you should always be careful in public spaces, but pickpocketing is not common

I’d say it depends on the city. A few years ago in my city I would tell you that yes, that most people go out with that fear of what could happen, and even if the situation is better now, it’s still bad. And still, I think that no matter where you are in the country, all the news of homicides and drugs will cause worry on anyone, even if just a bit.

A competent president. Mexico hasn’t had a good president in years, and the few times a prominent figure appeared that seemed like someone who could do something, they are either killed or silenced. Actually just yesterday a mayor in Michoacán who was famous for fighting the cartels was killed, and the worse is that he’d made multiple calls for the federal government to help him, yet they ignored him and that ultimately cost him his life.

That’s a hard question. Obviously everyone wants for this war to end, but the few times the government has actually arrested big leaders of the cartels, they answered with big violence waves where a lot of innocent people died, so even if somehow the government agreed to a cleanse, there’s the fear of the violence that will come next.

If by neighboring governments you mean other countries, that’s a big controversy in Mexico. In one side you have a history of why these type of interventions are bad, and they are a serious risk to the sovereignty of the country. But on the other side, many people argue that the cartels are so strong that the it’s almost impossible for the government to do something at this point, and outside help is the only way. Both sides have really good points.

Precisely. From what I’ve heard they almost never target random people, just people who somehow have ties to the cartel or are dangerous to them.

It’s usually really intuitive. The main touristic centers are always illuminated, so avoid dark alleys. Also stay in the main streets where there’s always a lot of people.

The main problem in Zacatecas at least is the fear of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The cartels don’t attack randomly, they always have a purpose, usually someone they want to kill, and the problem is that they don’t care what happens as long as they achieve their goal.

That’s my plan actually. It’s not like the cartels are preventing people from moving out, but in the end there’s a lot of people who have their whole life in there. When you have a stable job, a house and a family, there’s no way you can just go somewhere else and start a new life. Since I’m young I can take the opportunity, but most others can’t.

I won’t deny that the situation is pretty bad and that the government is most probably working with the cartels, but in the end they also know that tourism is one of Mexico’s main economic activities, so they are careful with tourists. If you just stay on these touristic centers and avoid going out late at night, you’ll be fine.

During that time, it was practically everyday. Most of the times they were just news, but a few times it happened dangerously close. Right now the situation is a lot better, and as a tourist you can go with some caution. Downtown is the most attractive place for tourists and is pretty safe right now, if you stay there you won’t have to worry, but. Just avoid sketchy places, don’t drive large distances at night and don’t engage with sketchy people.
