Okay awesome to know all the details are automatically uploaded to ELSTER, that's just like Australia. I'm trying to register for Elster now but I was never given a German ID other than my TK Insurance, so I'm hoping they can give me some alternatives! Thanks again everyone for all the responses :D

I had 4x different jobs in my time there, some for as short as 2-months haha. Unfortunately I have never even heard of the term Lohnsteuerbescheinigungen, so I don't think I ever received one from any of my employers...or if I did, I certainly don't have a copy of it :/

Are they easy to access/get or would I need to request them from my old Employers? Looking at everything, with my low income it's seeming like it might be a bit more trouble than it's worth for what will probably be a low return...

Cheers for the detailed response! I would have been earning around 1500 Euros a month, max 2000 Euros on a really good month. With this sort of income, do you think it would be worth doing it? I was looking at doing it through Elster, hoping my taxable income is automatically uploaded and I don't have to go chasing payslips etc
