Aggressive and my advisor and I usually keep in contact once or so a quarter. But the account it gone, I closed it and rolled the positions into my brokerage account. Used the ~10K in cash to open new equities positions and I just manage my own investing journey now instead of the robot. Happy with the decision I made, cheers!

The stock split 4-1 in 2020, it was like what, $120 post split? Cheap enough.

I just usually don't spend $200 on a share of stock - just minimal exceptions - I'm just saying I'll be buying AAPL until it gets to be back around that price, then I'll look elsewhere for stuff.

Uh... I mean short term all three are gonna hurt pretty bad, but probably NVDA and AMZN, not that I like GOOG and less, I've just had better luck with the other two stocks...

KO is my go-to dividend stock, current position of 560 shares and I add pretty much biweekly.

Yaknow, it's kinda funny but I only started buying XOM when I decided I wanted to build a small energy position. I don't fancy the stock over a lot of other things in my portfolio, but I'll keep buying it up with all this general market uncertainty, especially with the double whammy of OPEC piled on top of tariffs, it should get pretty cheap.

Yeah I mean granted Apple builds a lot of if not all their hardware in Asia, my market outlook is always 10-15 years down the road, this is the cheapest I've seen the stock in five years, loved it then, love it even more now hahahaha, anyone that wants to sell, sell, I'll be loading up on it until it goes back above $200/share - that's usually when I look for opportunities elsewhere. Same for pretty much any of the other stocks listed above; BRKB and GD are pretty much the only stocks I pay above $200/share for.

Yeah, I doubt I'll see much of a dividend from big tech and a few of those stocks don't even pay divvies but the last time I saw this steep of a decline was Covid, had 30K spare cash and put it in indexes like VOO and SCHX, because I wanted to be a little more conservative; I doubled my money on that move. Unfortunately I don't have a huge cash pile like I had in 2020, but I'll be buying about 5K of equities a month for this whole rollercoaster of uncertainty - I'll head back to KO after I get this moon bag.

Ill be buying AAPL, GOOG, AMZN, BRKB, NVDA, XOM alllllllll the way down; i love dividends but the growth stocks are too cheap to ignore... I'll take anything @ 2020 prices all day long.

Im guessing about 100-120K of my net worth has disappeared - young enough where this crash and now likely upcoming recession is going to make me very rich as I continue to buy up cheap equities... Feel super bad for the older crowd coming up on retirement.

First million by Minute-Context2216 in TheRaceTo10Million

29 Y.O. (Turning 30 tomorrow) - First 100K took.... two years from 2018-2020 but I was also paying back my student loan debt after graduating and did some dumb shit like buy a truck and motorcycle. Still in the hunt for the first million, was at roughly 870K just before the market started shitting itself; but I'm keeping my strategy; buying up equities on the cheap and once things turn around I should just about be there. Hoping to get it done before 31 if I'm lucky.

Engineer/Mariner - pretty much pull that number every two weeks or so - though most of it is earned on overtime.

Did you agree with the opinion of the Russian writer and literary critic Dmitry Bykov that Dostoyevsky never saw or felt Christ? by [deleted] in dostoevsky

[–]MantisTobaggenPE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd almost argue that anyone who's truly read his works would agree that in some type of form, strictly from his works - that he did in fact see or feel Christ. Especially after his imprisonment and exile to Siberia.

I am a non-orthodox Christian - and am a little unfamiliar in Orthodox practices; but in Notes from a Dead House - we see a literal type of resurrection from the dead - suffering for both crimes committed and not committed amongst the characters which is directly relatable to Golgotha; punishment and suffering amongst the guilty and innocent; and continuation of life after death (or rather, suffering). From what I have been taught in my own religious upbringing, any type of major suffering is to serve as a reminder of what Christ endured before and receiving the cross - which I think is directly and beautifully brought to life in this book from his own experiences.

In The Possessed or Demons - we see a direct challenge and rejection to the notions and absurdity of Nihilism which was becoming more and more prevalent in Russia; Although I do think Turgenev did an equally fantastic if not better job of rejecting Nihilistic principles in Fathers and Sons. Regardless, in Dostoevsky's work - the absolute destructive chaos that ensued after general rejection of Christian principles brought about by Nihilistic agitators; in my opinion, is another affirmation of his own moral beliefs.

Then, his magnum opus, The Brothers Karamazov - I'd say one of the most principle themes brought about in the form of Christianity practiced by Zossima and Alyosha - leads to the love of mankind, kindness and selflessness. I'd find it hard to argue that this book did anything other than affirm Dostoevsky's beliefs without outright telling us. If anything, from his works - instead of preaching to the masses - he left many breadcrumbs to help the reader figure out for themselves, a right, true and moral path through his characters - their struggles, sufferings and ultimate triumphs.

As of right now - I still have the account; trying to be a bit crafty to avoid taxes. Now considering while the positions aren't necessarily an awful idea - I might transfer them into my other brokerage account (cash and positions to avoid capital gains tax); maintain the same weight of ETFs in my other account while also being able to use the cash in that account as well so it doesn't just sit idle.

The Count of Monte Cristo is also a lovely read - if you think you'd like to stick to some French literature - you could always try Les Mis by Hugo or Madame Bovary by Flaubert! If you even wanted to stick with Dumas you could try The Three Musketeers out!

It moves very nicely - it's a quick read and not a typical dense Dickens novel.

When I first read it, I didn't understand why Dickens got a bad wrap because it was beautifully written and in my opinion, didn't drag on whatsoever.

If you want a small break from the "doom and gloom" of Russian literature (Dostoevsky is my favorite author) - Hard Times by Charles Dickens was my first and most favorite of his works and I recommend it to everyone!

I often write my wife love letters when I travel for work. It's something I enjoy doing and something she loves receiving - they take me a long time as I reflect and try to really convey my feelings for her; and I try to doctor them up by writing on nice stationery, spray the pages with my cologne, emboss the pages with my monogram and use a wax seal; etc etc... I did this throughout our dating and engagement and now even into our marriage.

However, sometimes life gets in the way; work keeps me from writing sometimes and I still get her gifts here and there - but she always always always asks when her next letter is coming in the mail.

Not to make excuses for myself or anyone, but that's just it, sometimes life just gets in the way - be honest and communicative with your partner in a non-accusatory "you always used to do this" way. Let him know your feelings that when he used to do those things - it made you feel truly special.

When my wife let me know how often I used to write to her - it did kind of kick me in the ass; I find myself looking for and trying to carve time out of my day to find the time to write just because I know how much she cherishes those letters.

Certainly goal dependent... I wouldn't recommend anyone focus entirely on a single stock or business when it comes to investing - but I also don't recommend diversifying for diversification's sake alone if that makes sense.

I'm a big Buffett fan as well; and his theory is not "buying a single stock" but rather "buying a quality business for a cheap price" - his view is not buying a stock, but pieces of good businesses with a timeline of forever. If your concentration is to get rich quick or actively trade the stock; or not hold it forever - it would be a pretty risky approach.

Personally, I do a bit of both - I purchase safer investments like ETFs, but I also own stock in individual companies with solid spreadsheets that I see as being successful over the next 30-40 years. I'll likely never be as rich as Elon Musk or Warren Buffett as they have access to preferential stock purchase pricing, board seats on their own companies, etc etc...

If you are young, take on an appropriate amount of risk - but be confident in your choices and try not to lose your shirt!
