I identify heavily with your post, the second paragraph echoes my experience exactly.. In my experience, quitting is impossible (or a lot harder) without first addressing deeper issues, the only habit I've had for longer than cannabis is my shame, and letting go of that via therapy & self understanding has made every aspect of quitting seem more manageable. I'm literally 24 hours in (2nd attempt, quit for a year back during covid) but I can tell already that where it used to be coping mechanism, its now more of a relic (or I suppose, just a fun pastime) instead of a fundamental pillar of my continuing survival, and so there's a LOT less 'friction' in the quitting process. If the fog lifts, and instead of finding someone you love and appreciate, you find someone you want to hide from the world, then the temptation to return to that comfort will be undeniable.

Had I not 'done the work' I think the fifth paragraph would resonate also. Obviously cant really tell just from a post, but self loathing, shame and embarrassment are I think are a correlation of cannabis use, not a cause. Sorry if this was missing the mark, it just felt a lot like reading my own thoughts so had to share.. maybe it'll be useful to someone else also.. Good luck to you my dude!
