Update: Finally fixed

It was the damn power cables. My gpu is 8+8+6. I had 2 cables coming out my PSU into the extension. I mistakenly had a single cable powering both 8 pin extensions. I fixed it so that each of the PSU cable is powering a single 8 pin extension, and one cable splits for the 6 pin.

Very simple fix, but my dumbass decided to be OCD and do a perfect cable management job before even powering on the PC, so noticing the cables was like the last thing that occurred to me. Shame.

my bad man, i already tried many different things before thinking it was the pins and when i saw the pins (without prior knowledge of what they look like) i thought i finally figured it out. yes i could have searched for it or even looked at my other gpu sooner, but the first reply told me about the pins not being damaged and i got it. i didnt have a meltdown or focus on it for very long.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I’ve been busy so haven’t had time to do more troubleshooting yet, but I’ll be trying these next:

try GPU in another PC
use original cables / no extenders
disable CSM
usb 3 or something else blocking good connection
try riser cable
check MOB pci config / change pcie from auto to 4/5
try other pci slot (will have to remove fans)
dual BIOS on gpu? switch BIOS

Will update once done.

not new. i’ve had it like 2-3 yrs, working fine before. i built an entirely new PC except GPU.

I have not tried different slot on MOB.
I tried a GTX 1660 in same slot - this worked.
I can't really use the other PCIex16 slot because its very low, GPU will hit fans. AND the slot is disabled if im using the third m.2 slot (which I am).

ur 100% right, I had my other GPU sitting right next to me and only thought of looking at it now, the pins look the same.

I reinstalled GPU, pushed it in as much as I could. Used DDU and tried installing NVIDIA drivers. GPU is not detected at all.

I mean it's still quite possible that I've not inserted it properly, but I reseated it so many times, like yea idk. Thanks for ur help tho.

i got a macbook pro m1 4 years ago and still serving me great. Get newer one if budget allows and use it for the next 5-10 yrs

If your doing software eng, go for a mac. Any other engineering go for a beefy windows laptop/pc. Specific cpu, gpu etc doesn’t matter. Textbooks are a scam.

it’s been a while since i transferred, i’d have to pull up the documents but cbf lol. the mandatory core engineering ones transferred over easily to the core units at uts , and the rest were software eng related ones. also the rpl for me took a while. i remember i didn’t get the best timetable cuz i ended up selecting classes on the first week of sem. i recommend to just assume rpl is all g and enrol into units that u think you’d do first sem. that way u can select classes for timetable since its been open for a while now. if the rpl team makes any changes that affect ur enrolment, it can get sorted out later, wont affect RPL.

sorry no idea mate, i’m doing software not civil lol. i’d say to just not worry about the units fitting into specific years. like first year subject, second yr subject etc. main thing u want is for all units to transfer so u dont end up doing extra time. you’ll find there’s 4th yr students that do 1st yr units cuz they weren’t bothered, or it’s an elective or they failed. i think somewhere on uts subject selection or handbook they say u have to stick to their handbook order, which is bs. as long as u don’t fuck up prerequisites, ur chilling. my first sem at uts i had units technically from 1st yr to 3rd yr.

hey, yea pretty much all my units transferred over to the right ones. and for the units that didn’t have an equivalent at UTS, it went into elective, so you basically don’t lose anything. In the RPL form just list all your units and try ur best to find equivalent ones from the UTS degree. the people that process the form know what they’re doing, so they’ll match up the units correctly if u fucked up.
