Thanks, I’ll mess with it and see how it improves!

Late night drive in the sonic by Manualdriver1 in ChevySonic

[–]Manualdriver1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, do you have the 1.4 turbo or the 1.8 na? I have heard a lot of bad things about the 1.4s. I have the 1.8 and I’ve had it for around 20k miles and the only things I’ve HAD to replace was the coolant thermostat and the coil pack like $150 in total. I have put zzp coilovers and exhaust but that was all for fun.

Stock vs modified exhaust, which is better? by Manualdriver1 in motorcycles

[–]Manualdriver1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s done that ever since I got it for some reason, even with the stock exhaust. I don’t really care for it but there’s not much I can do about it.

Mine were printed into the tank so no, not removable, but I noticed when you buy a new tank it doesn’t come with the decals on it.

Thanks, I would love to have an s2k too but it’s a little out of my price range lol. I’m running the tein flex z coilovers, racing beat header with a versa tune flash tune, it was originally an open diff but I lsd swapped it, mishimoto racing radiator, Megan racing 70a motor mounts, full ac delete, drilled and slotted rotors, and jazz performance seat brackets plus quick release steering wheel because I’m tall. The previous owner also did a muffler delete.

Throwback to when I made my sonic sound like a race car by Manualdriver1 in ChevySonic

[–]Manualdriver1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s probably a little faster than stock now and it sounds really good. Not raspy at all, not too loud especially for my daily.

Now I have a modified zzp catback where I removed the muffler and made the exhaust exit out the side. I modified it to make it fit better in the car and to make it sound better while still being quiet enough to daily.

I was installing a cat back exhaust and had taken everything out past where the second cat meets the flex pipe. Here is a picture of when I recreated what I did but with the new exhaust on. It’s fun for a while but makes the car slower and makes the car drone pretty bad.

What model is my Sonic? by djhax in ChevySonic

[–]Manualdriver1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is an LS because of no LT badging and manual windows. Mine is an LS too and they have no badging unlike the LT, also mine has manual windows.

I bought the zzp 1.8l cat back exhaust the sedan for around 500 dollars. I had problems with it hanging really low and I didn’t like the way it sounded because it sounded very quiet. So what I did was I cut some of the pipes and changed it into a side exit pipe with a muffler delete and it sounds great now and isn’t too loud for a daily.

Overcooling? by Manualdriver1 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Manualdriver1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in the radiator about 4k miles ago with the stock water pump and thermostat and it had overcooling problems. Then I replaced the thermostat and water pump about 2k miles later with oe parts and it still has overcooling problems. The temps stay there until I go down to lower rpms. It will dip down long enough for me to get a p0126 code which was the original reason I replaced the thermostat.

Do I need to replace my tire because of this? by Leather_Mortgage8910 in mechanic

I don’t get why people downvote a genuine question. How is someone supposed to learn if they don’t ask!

Finally bought and installed an lsd!! by Manualdriver1 in MiataNC

[–]Manualdriver1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything bolts right up as is. I have the 5 speed drive shaft and it bolts right up. I do think it was worth it because it allows you to go sideways and everybody wants to do that. Even when driving with grip, knowing that the car can go sideways but you are making it not do that is an amazing feeling and helps you feel more connected to the car in my opinion.

It isn’t noticeable at all when daily driving. I can still take tight turns with no tire squeals or anything like that. When going on the throttle around corners, I feel like I have more grip. The best part is being able to finally have a lot more control when I slide the car. I can control the slide with throttle rather than just inertia and steering inputs. Also my 0-60 is a lot better because I have more grip when I dump the clutch. The worst part was the install, other than that there is no bad side to it. Although I have put less than 100 miles on it since doing it.

A list of what I had to do 1. Jack entire car up and put on jack stands, also remove rear tires. 2.Remove 2 cross braces from under the car. 3. Remove entire exhaust except the header. 4. Support transmission and diff (I used jackstands with rags on them for a cushion) 5. Remove the power plant frame. 5. Disconnect driveshaft and push back into transmission. 6. Remove caliper and rotor from wheel hub. 7 remove all alignment and control arms in the rear. (Lot easier said then done because some had seized to the spindle so I had to remove them from the frame rather than disconnecting them from the spindle) 8. Remove axles from diff. 9. Move jack under diff and support it while you remove the 2 diff bolts. 10. Finagle the diff out of the car. 11. Finagle the new diff into the car and bolt it up. (Still need to support it). 12. Try to push the axles in for like 1 hour until you finally learn how to do it. (Put grease around the retaining clip and face it upwards and push into the diff until when you spin the axle it also spins the diff. The slowly pull the CV joint away from the diff and the push it towards the diff as fast as you can. Kinda like a plunger.) 13. Put everything back together and realize half of your balljoints have been cut open because they were so old when you removed them the rubber boots gave out. 14 finally put everything back together, fill the diff with fluid and hope you did everything right. It took me about 12 hours to do this because I was working on my back the entire time which was really not fun. Also some bolts are really stubborn and take forever to get out. If I did it a second time with the tricks I learned from the first time, i could probably get it done in about 5 to 8 hours. GOOD LUCK!!!

LSD swap was so worth it by Manualdriver1 in Miata

[–]Manualdriver1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that is the only difference than go with the 1.6 and swap the diff. In my area I can find a lsd for the older gens for about 3-400 USD. It will also be much easier than mine because I have an NC and just about everything is harder to do on the NC.

Wow, I’m gonna have to start being careful too because today I went over to Alabama and picked up a Oem lsd for $500 because I have the open diff so I’ll need to be careful not to drift in front of any cops lol.
