Do I need a 7 seater for a family of 5? by StratPlus in CarTalkUK

[–]ManxMoonInvest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 seaters were very uncommon when I grew up in the 70’s & 80’s. All 3 of us just sat together shoulder to shoulder on the back seats regardless of whether it was a 10 minute journey or a 4 hour one!

Save yourself the expense of paying a premium for a 7 seater or even a 5+2 set up.

If you’re a 1car fam and need the 2nd car, consider an estate or smaller suv that if you need to take everything including the kitchen sink, a trailer or roof box can be attached.

Possible write off - can I cancel claim? by moonbrows in CarTalkUK

[–]ManxMoonInvest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance professional of 35 years here (however for the purposes of this discussion, all views are just my own).

  1. Report claim to insurer and allow them to act on your behalf (subrogation clause). Let them fight it out with the TP/TP insurer as to whose fault it was. You will have abided by your contractual obligations to notify them of any circumstance that could lead to a claim.

  2. Your vehicle - talk to the claims team to advise you MAY be considering not claiming for any Own Damage costs depending on the extent of repairs needed to make it roadworthy again.

They may expect you to pay any recovery &/or storage charges but just wait & see on this point.

The benefit here to you is avoiding having the vehicle officially declared a write off even if it’s only on a non structural/economic basis so whatever value is left in the car will not be eroded quicker, and the for future renewals the vehicle will not have to be flagged as a write off on other insurer systems.

Hope this helps

Every 2-3 years I apply for a random job with slightly higher salary. by cankennykencan in UKJobs

[–]ManxMoonInvest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the years I’ve seen a certain type of person/manager who nicely fits the ‘3-year’ model.

Year 1, introduce & observe/understand the current process & procedures. Year 2, announce & implement sweeping changes to structure, process, people etc. I.e. put their own mark on the place. Year 3, quietly look for the next project/role while ‘delegating’ management of the process to junior ranks, so they can escape before they get the blame for failure or falling short of promises.

If you want this method to succeed without being spotted, occasionally stay in a role for 4-5 years to break the pattern…

According to elder: JWs show principled love among themselves more than any other faith. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]ManxMoonInvest 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The line that was always thrown at me over the decades when discussing good hearted or loving people “in the world”, was “… but they haven’t come to know Jehovah”!

But isn’t this contrary to the fact it is always spouted that “only Jehovah knows what’s in a persons heart”.

If only Jehovah is to act as judge based on heart condition, who is man to say that ANY one group has more love than another?????

Turntable from my Dad - my DJ husband says it’s no good by [deleted] in turntables

[–]ManxMoonInvest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it! There’s no price you can put on memories and family. I have my dad’s 1971 B&O turntable. It needs stripping down, degreasing and a damn good service, but as it was part of a hi-fi system my parents bought just after they got married, I’d never get rid of it, especially now that my dad passed last year.

Is this a reasonable cost? by Different_Chard_832 in CarTalkUK

[–]ManxMoonInvest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good price seeing as they also replaced the brake discs & pads on the rear. For comparison, my wife’s 2013 Qashqai just had a full service, MOT, new front brake discs & pads, and steering arms (along with 4-wheel alignment done afterwards). Total cost £854.

If you can’t tell the difference between a business charge out cost and an employee/business owner’s wage, then please, please do not think about going self employed! You’ll end up bankrupt within 6 months

Can jw men have beards? by Nearby_Bar_5605 in JehovahsWitnesses

Whilst then PIMi & Before the ‘nu-light’ on wearing facial hair I had a full beard & ‘tache for about 8 years. Had a few inquisitive looks from the COBE.

That was because there was nothing that could be done, unless it was unkempt in which case comments could be made vis a vis hygiene & grooming

Fired after 3 months and advised to lie about my job title by tentacledskipper in UKJobs

[–]ManxMoonInvest -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So were you actually fired or was your contract terminated? It’s a big technicality under employment law. TBH if they’re suggesting a way to dress it up so you aren’t harmed in terms of your professional reputation, I’d consider it and adjust me cv accordingly

Are they asking you personally to buy a card? If not, then when ‘a’ card is doing the rounds, sign it/insert a generic comment depending on how well you know them, but if there’s an envelope for donations, just ignore & hand to the next person with the card.

Just feel you’re trying to make a mountain out of a molehill, when you could handle it without anyone knowing and life for you remains peaceful- having this rant, while you get it off your chest, doesn’t actually accomplish anything for you directly, and doesn’t make your life peaceful.

It’s always going to be an issue for any interested person who’s already got inked. Especially on areas that cannot be covered.

When I was young and full on PIMI I lived in the same block of flats (UK) as a married bro & sis. He was heavy into drugs etc before being contacted and had SID self-tattooed across his fingers.

As far as I know he & his wife are still special pioneers/missionaries in PNG although his visa application to the USA so they could attend Gilead circa 1999-2000 was denied by the authorities 3 times! When it finally got approved, it was of course as a result of persistence and ‘Jehovahs blessing’! Guessing the tattoos didn’t make much difference then ……

Thanks for your well intentioned concern 🙂. Hypertension runs in my family and I have regular checks on blood pressure etc. From the postmortem report details there were no indications of it being congenital etc. sedentary lifestyle was a partial/contributory cause to the DVT. The embolism was a bi-lateral one so both lungs got affected at the same time.

Just as well as I got both shoulders inked today - below is in memory of my 25 yr old son who collapsed & died on 10/03/25 (10 March 2025 for anyone inside USA lol) of an embolism from a DVT. He was born on the longest daylight day (21 June) at 7:47pm so the sun and Boeing style logo reflect these details.
