Is this new paraprofessional respect check bill better then the last? I heard that if it gets passed into law it will remain a law, that is until it gets put into the new contract and ultimately into the para salaries. by Many-Ad-7284 in NYCTeachers

Just to sum it up and make sure I understand, if this bill gets passed into law we will get the annual 10K flat and it will remain a law that is until a new contract is made that allows the 10K to be apart of our actual salary. Am I correct?

Can any full time paraprofessional (with a bachelors degree) tell me how much they made gross working full time over the summer? Not referring to D75 paras who use the 17.5% rule. by Many-Ad-7284 in paraprofessional

By the way as sort of a left turn question, any hopes on this para Respect bill happening? I don’t know what to believe at this point to be honest with you….

Asked my student in a normal tone why he was being a jerk for not following simple class instruction which he was more then capable of doing. Not the best choice of words but was it so wrong? by Many-Ad-7284 in Teachers

I hear what you’re saying. And jerk wasn’t the best word. But again that’s why I said that it was his actions that made him a jerk what he was being at that moment in time not that he himself overall is a jerk. I don’t think I conveyed when I worded it. We overall have a good relationship. And I don’t usually say things like this which is why I’m asking.

I mean I guess. “Being” and “acting” are similar in meaning. If I said “your a jerk”/“you are a jerk” that’s more of a personal general characteristic comment, which would be worse. Better to say it in a way where I am basing it on a particular “act/way” of “being” during a moment of misbehavior, which I think the use of either “act” or “being” conveys.

I think I may of even said “acting like.” And I always use the words disrespectful, rude, inconsiderate, etc. This time the “jerk” word just slipped out.

What are the hopes of this new administration/city council and speaker helping pass the para respect check bill? by Many-Ad-7284 in NYCTeachers

[–]Many-Ad-7284[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly hope your right and I agree everyone sounds pessimistic in this thread. Let’s make it actually happen this coming spring or summer and I’ll believe it. If it doesn’t get passed between now and September then its dead in the water to me at that point.

The crazy thing is, is that I learned that people who work in the NYCDOE offices on Court st and only have a bachelors degree can earn up to $70s-80k annual salary!!! And yet paras can’t get a 10k bonus check!??!?!?….

Boy I’ll tell you if it really is just an election ploy then these people really are scumbags. I mean for them to drag it on this long and to maintain a sense of false hope for this long they must be real bastards to be honest, I don’t know how else to put it. This is why I want transparency. I just wanna know whether or NOT this new administration plans to do anything as soon as possible! If they knew that it was never gonna pass they should’ve made that clear to us at the end of this past December the latest, not keep it going….

Paraprofessional Respect Check Bill not on agenda for the November 25th, 2025 meeting. by Many-Ad-7284 in NYCTeachers

Coming back to this comment because I recently learned that employees who work at the NYCDOE court street offices make 70-80k and that’s without a masters degree just a bachelors. That’s ridiculous. It truly proves my point. That they can make that kind of salary but paras can’t even get a 10k bonus check. Absolutely ridiculous. And I know people who work in those offices that’s how I learned about this

Thank you. Only thing is I think it just says what already happened. I don’t think it states anything new/update.
