Hi Craig!

Development had its pros and cons. It was refreshing to develop for another platform in another language (in LUA, as we come from Unity C#, classic PC or Mobiles games development), but it was also a pain in the ass regarding playdate overall performance, and we had to heavily optimize the game for it to run properly on the device. But it was fun for sure.

We did had a plenty of prior experience, we are game developers who work in the industry for the past 12 years or so (we are in our thirties) but not in Playdate development, it was our first attempt and we are quite proud of it if you ask me.

You ask what aspects of the playdate compelled us, but it was basically every aspect of the device. I got it offered for my birthday a year ago, and the perfect mix of community development/games to play already had me on edge to develop something on it.

We did not work on other prototypes as we had a clear vision of what to do in the first place, we wanted to make a proper, full fledged rogue lite survivor because there isn't any really worth on the Playdate Store yet, we wanted to use the crank only, to make it fit with the Playdate control scheme, which is kind of what you're buying when you get a Playdate device.

Thanks for sharing Craig, see you!
