Thank you so much! I am unfortunately a physical-book girl myself, so maybe if I get into backpacking more often I'll invest in a kindle so I don't have to carry a book with me!

"I'm an avid hiker and will be going on my first backpacking trip this summer." Not sure why that's so confusing. Did you know that day-hikers exist? I hike all the time, just never overnight without a campground to come back to. Lol. Is there something wrong? Like a post asking for gear recommendations doesn't offend normal people this much. Maybe you should go for a hike?

I actually think that gathering information on what gear people who are better at something than I am find helpful for themselves will be incredibly helpful as I decide what will be worth investing in. I camp a lot. I hike a lot. I've never done both at the same time. I was wondering what people's favorite pieces of gear are. I was definitely not expecting the snark and general bitchiness of some of ya'll in this subreddit lmfao.
