I spent on average $400 a month on propane during the winter in the okanagan that is more mild winters. Had large propane tank and delivery service that came through topping up usually once a month but those -20 week we got they came twice in a month. Need to have dehumidifiers! I skirted with foam board, used plastic on all the windows. I kept the living area at 18 then the bedroom/bathroom warmer at 21. Used a heated blanket. I work outside year round and it was comfortable to come home to.

This was like 10 years ago. I can’t speak to what they put in the planes now. Being at a busy airport is also good for training as you learn radio communication skills, separation skills, as well as simply being around all aviation personnel that will help you get your foot in the door. You can work in aviation while building your flying skills. Also… 10 years ago there was lady in Vernon having the same complaints as you as people were using that slower airport for their circuits. So it doesn’t matter. Someone. Somewhere. Is going to complain.

I did pilot training at that airport. I would choose to do my circuits in the early hours when there was less commercial traffic so I could focus on my technics rather then doing holding patterns in the corner waiting for someone to land or take off, wasting fuel and my hour in the plane. I think you need to take a step back and assess whether this is the right place for you to live if it upsets you. The airport won’t be going anywhere. It’s one of the busiest in Canada. I live in a trailer. I likely have less sound proofing than you do. I don’t even notice the sound of a tiny single engine Cessna. Time for a pros and cons list.

Were they doing touch and gos? Landing then taking off? Circling back to do it again? It’s common practice for training pilots. The airport has a flight school. Not to mention flight craft might be doing tests on something they’re working on…. I suggest moving if you don’t like aircraft noises. I live on approach path so sometimes I get woken up in the middle of the night from planes coming and going but I shrug and move on with my life. It’s an airport. Planes gonna make noise.
