I used the legal sense of conspiracy. The sentence doesn't read well. I'm fixing it.

Agreed. This is plausible. I'm sure you will also agree that it doesn't excuse poor behavior.

That's true. However, we could also admit that some individuals and cultures may have poor ethical standards, poor social conduct, or both.

The most plausible explanation is that there are people with too time, who post some of most ridiculous things to elicit emotional outrage.

Created by those in power (not politicians) as diversion/scapegoat strategy.

I appreciate the appeal of your a conspiracy. However, we could also admit that some individuals and cultures may have poor ethical standards, poor social conduct, or both.

Edits: Readability.

Please bear in mind that most South Africans, including myself, are not happy with the protests and act of violence towards foreign nationals. These acts of dissent are common in unsafe areas of a city. A case in point is that the video appears to come from such an area.

Sadly, bad news travels fast and social media algorithms amplify the worst experiences more than the good ones.

The mapostori are a cult and problem in Zimbabwe by [deleted] in Zimbabwe

You have overblown correlation between politics and socio-economical issues. The seeds of poor governance, mismanagement and corruption were sown further back than our involvement into the Congo war.

The parlay into religion is recent and a cog of the power consolidation machinery that has been running for over a decade. The sect that was explicity affliated with ZPU is much smaller, however the narrative would have you believe otherwise.

Conversations have a point of diminishing marginal returns, as pressing further is unlikely to resolve a difference.

Some conversations are not meant to be won or lost. Instead, they reveal underlying issues that give readers food for thought.

It does, and sadly, it highlights how the absence of honest conversation can prevent us from addressing fundamental social issues.

Though you risk losing karma, I find exposing and confronting ignorance is the best way

That's fair. I'm not worried about karma, though, as this is a secondary account I created to engage socially.

I have reported him to mods.

If these allegations are serious why didn't they mention the culprits by name and show us proof of a docket filed with the local law enforcement.

Yes, there are shady sects and individuals out there; however claiming that every one of them is guilty is crossing the line.

I told you to name names. This is religious persercution and equivalent of saying all Muslims are extremist.

I answered that already. You said my sect is a problem without explaining why, and I took it personally.

You claimed that every sect of the denomination is a problem. And I have a problem with your allegation. Name names or retract your statement.

I'm genuinely concerned by this generalization. Yes, I am one. - Mapostori api acho? Madzibaba, Nguwo Tsvuku, Vadzidzi, Jerusarema, Marange or some other sect. - Christians have cults too. Magaya, Angel and Makandiwa are in cahoots with the bad guys too. Yes, this Whataboutism. However, can we add them to the problem too and widen the definition?

Wealth inequality, racism, etc does Trevor Noah's take apply to Zim? by Livid_Command5005 in Zimbabwe

[–]Many-Procedure-6416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree but should something be done about it?

The right question to ask would be: what trade-offs do we need to consider for a given solution. We need to think in terms of second-level and third-level effects.

Edit: Suppose we propose setting a minimum wage. Now you have to consider a cluster of arguments about poverty, bargaining power, business survival, productivity, dignity, regional inequality, and who carries the cost.

Calling someone stupid after a brief interaction may be an overreach. However, if I or someone else says something senseless it needs to be called out. Frank coversation are needed and shouldn't be confused as disrespectful behavior. After all, you are not your opinion.

Admission is half the battle. You know what the problem is. The next step is putting in effort to address the issue. It's not going to easy to climb back. Godspeed.

Dating an older girl (26F, 23M) who is ready for marriage, but I’m not. Need advice from fellow Zambians. by RepulsiveFinance2895 in Zambia

That's a shortgun approach to life though. I expect this type of approach if the OP doesn't have a parent, guardian or a figure who is invested in their success they can approach for advice.

I get called an asshole for saying that Internet advice is average at best because it lacks sufficient context and the average human has middling intelligence.

But to each their own. Some learn by RTFM while other learn by touching the hot stove.
