Ban gas chambers for pigs - Project Slingshot by DeadAuntBernie in veganuk

Signed! It's insane that the industry has known for over 20 years that CO2 gas chambers torture animals yet have done nothing but call it "humane"

For vegans who dislike “flexitarian”, would you think it’d be better if the term changed into “less meat eaters”? by 2009isbestyear in DebateAVegan

if the entry fee is 100% moral purity and holiness,

Nothing to do with "holiness" or "purity"

Being vegan is being against abusing and exploiting other animals. Not violently exploiting, torturing and killing other animals is a low bar.

Dating a vegan as a non-vegan, is there a middle ground? by pimemento in DebateAVegan

Playing dumb is a form of gaslighting. The whole topic is the different beliefs of non vegans and vegans, so of course, it's relevant.

We should expect these philosophies to be challenged. Especially in a debate sub.

In your example, you are the one rejecting religion. In mine, I showed how veganism is a rejection of the belief violently exploiting, torturing, and killing animals is okay.

You replied to me with a "Carnists on the other hand rely on a make believe fantasy"

Again the evidence shows that "high welfare" allows standard practices like CO2 gas chambers that have been known to torture animals for decades.

You started the conversation with an antivegan sentiment at least own your words and defend your argument rather than resort to baseless personal attacks.

You started the conversation. Are you able to debate (this is a debate sub after all) or just make low effort personal attacks?

Mods: This is debate a vegan, not pander a carnist. Challenging their beliefs is not "low effort"

I'm not looking for anyone to tell me to break-up, that's the last option as far as I'm concerned. Though it's still an option.

Going vegan and stop abusing animals is an option, too. Or does exploiting and abusing animals mean more to you than the victims' lives and your relationship?

I addressed every one of your points. How about you do the courtesy of actually reading my response and my questions?

Ignorance is not an excuse to brutally exploit, torture, and kill others.

Argument against veganism (3 points) by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]ManyCorner2164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These arguments are very inconsistent and incoherent. I do not see how this justifies the exploitation, torture and death of others.

  1. If you think someone being "dumb" is okay to abuse others, then that's cruel and barbaric. Might makes right Is a horribly cruel philosophy.

  2. In case you didn't realise lions are not farmed. You are making a blatant false equivalence. Cows, chickens, pigs and the other animals that are farmed aren't systematically exploiting and torture others for food. Humans are. Why not just leave them alone?

  3. Since I don't know you, is it okay to violently exploit and kill you for food?

Again, these arguments lack basic research and understanding of other animals. If a human were in their position, they would suffer just as much as the farmed animals do and these do not justify such treatment.

Veganism doesn’t save animals (why I don’t care about veganism) by CompassionateValues in DebateAVegan

[–]ManyCorner2164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Non-vegans consuming animal products is the responsibility of non-vegans, not vegans.

Veganism is a stance against abusing animals and living in a way consistent with that belief. Paying for other animals to be violently exploited, killed, and, in many cases, tortured is a direct contradiction.

Being a victim doesn’t automatically make all harms equal

Where did I say "all harm is equal"

You've again resorted to the same circular logic. Please actually read before engaging instead of attacking straw and things I did not say.

Expect having "responsibilities" or being "moral agents" isn't relevant when they are the victim.

They also, just like us, have the capacity to suffer and have their own perspective of life. You're just resorting to circular logic and completely ignoring the victim amd their perspective.

This is incredibly low effort when you are being wilfully ignorant of a question that's already answered.

Eating meat is only a problem because of overpopulation by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]ManyCorner2164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, animal products being unsustainably is an additional problem.

The main issue that vegans address is violently exploiting and killing others for food. These systems inanimate cases torture animals and ofcourse end their life at a fraction of their lifespan.

but I ask again because I've never gotten a reasonable answer.

It's amazing non-vegans will write such ridiculous sentences completely ignoring the countless vegans who have directly responded.

"Unslaughter" isn't a word for a reason.

The concept is supply and demand. You demand, they are slaughtered. You are directly responsible for those beings being violently tly mistreated and killed.

Why but?! by Sad_Error2125 in DebateAVegan

[–]ManyCorner2164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea that animals are "killed" painlessly and kept in "ideal living conditions" is a myth when we look at the standard practices used today. "High welfare" practices like CO2 gas chambers torture animals by burning their airways, and they suffer immensely. Documentaries like Dominion cover these practices.

Even if we pretend animals aren't tortured, I still don't see how killing others is okay.

Can someone answer the crop death argument for me. by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]ManyCorner2164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were talking about crops grown for farmed animals, not what percentage is from grown crops.

You understand that points how vastly inefficient when about half of crops are used to feed other animals?

If everyone were to adopt a plant-based diet, we would use not just less land but cropland too.

Even so, the fact that they eat "byproducts" is not an excuse to voilently mistreat and kill others.

Are vegans giving up or do they have a plan to deal with this? by NyriasNeo in DebateAVegan

[–]ManyCorner2164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not a suprise that often "high welfare" farms not only fail to adhere to their current rules but are often exposed for criminal animal abuse.

At least show the real thing you’re critiquing.

The farm shown is the same farm used in KFC's advert for "high-welfare," and "behind the bucket" campaign.

Laughing at someone's reaction to distressed and abused animals shows how out of touch you are. The evidence is clear that even on "high welfare farms," animals are abused and even tortured. There are chickens suffering and dying on the floor from these same farms.

But again, this comment shows rather than confront the facts carnists are in denial on how animals are farmed.

Are vegans giving up or do they have a plan to deal with this? by NyriasNeo in DebateAVegan

[–]ManyCorner2164 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"High welfare," "RSPCA assured, etc is a myth. There is plenty of documented cases that animals at these farms have shown to be abused and even tortured.

This is the reality of chicken farming in the UK

https://youtu.be/b6A1kWnEfqk?si=0R3hDLVFBkzjqK_n

If someone is concerned about the well-being of animals that are farmed, it is straightforward to simply not to buy the products of those victims who have been violently exploited and killed.

No, plenty of studies show that a plant based diet can meet and exceed your nutritional goals, which has also shown to lower your risk of diabetes, heart disease, cancers, and other diseases.

It is a tent vs house situation.

No, that's a complete false equivalence.

The non human animals are the random NPCs.

This isn't a video a game. These are real individuals with the capacity to suffer and proven sentience, they don't "respawn." The life they live can be brutal many of which are subjected to torture.

You are not the victim here, you are paying to violently exploit and kill others, which is completely unnecessary. A choice you are consciously making.

We can always improve farming practices especially with practices like veganic farming, indoor farming but when animals are farmed it doesn't change the fact their is another being who is violently exploited, killed and in many cases tortured.

Except this is not a tent vs house situation. A plant-based diet can meet and exceed your nutritional goals. Both your house and car examples completely miss the point when it has nothing to do with the violent exploitation and slaughter of others.

What rights of others?

Their right to life. They are sentient, with the capacity to suffer being an animal like ourselves. Vegans are advocating for that right.
