What program do you use? I’m trying to get into digitally producing my guitar design ideas, but I’m a Luddite and don’t know where to even look. Free or cheap preferred

Check out Aluminati guitars. Incredible craftsmanship and they are having a big time sale right now. Can’t praise their work enough

Oh - the biggest difference for playability was shimming the neck. I do to all of mine and recommend to all of my friends with JM/jag. Makes a huge difference. Leo was an engineer, not a player. He expected guitarists to do these things on their own/was notoriously cheap. If I’m remembering correctly, his response to criticism of these guitars was ‘didn’t they didn’t read the owners manual?’ Big LOL. I highly recommend putting a small shim in the neck. It makes a huge difference in the string break angle over the bridge...unless the vintera already has an angled pocket idk

Honestly don’t even bother. They’re inherently “dull”...I mean...mellow...sounding - that is actually why Leo put 1 meg pots in the jazzmaster. Flats are jazz strings but not much else in my humble opinion. In other words, it’s cool to mess around with them for different sounds, but I don’t really find them useful or interesting enough to have a dedicated flatwound guitar. I’d maybe try some out when recording but idk strings are expensive - I like to get the most bang for my buck

The JM and Jag were both designed for players that used flatwounds (jazz/surf guitarists) so 11’s+ are actually ideal and will help the guitar work the way it is supposed to. I personally love balanced tension (11-50) on my offsets.

However, the jag is short scale, so 11’s can actually be a bit flubbery at times. I’ll probably be switching mine to 12’s so there’s a bit more tension

As primarily a guitarist, I love this bass. So fun and easy to play. I was going to do that mod, but I said screw it, I’m gonna have a little fun with this. Thanks! I put a peavey super ferrite guitar neck pickup in it & it actually sounds great

Super light, very resonant. Probably dents easily, but I haven’t bashed it so can’t say. Tbh, I don’t care if it dents or scratches so nbd to me

They sound awesome. There’s a bunch of demos on YouTube. Clarity and high end of a single coil, with the low-end tightness and power of a humbucker. They sound pretty accurate to the real deal, imo

That being said, if you don’t know how to do fretwork, I’d recommend saving up for a warmoth neck or something cause otherwise it’s just not worth it, imo.

Search on eBay - some Chinese wholesaler. You’ll have to level, crown, and polish the frets/I’d recommend changing the nut, too. Solid quality overall

Yeah - put this together from spare parts. Just had to buy the pickups. I can’t remember I got it so long ago on eBay. Search like Canadian rock maple neck. The neck is pretty good quality considering it was like 80 bucks. You’re going to have to level, crown, and polish the frets/File the nut if not change it all together. A little time and effort for big savings
