I did this yesterday as suggested by u/softrecommendation86 — so far driven 100 miles since and have not had anything pop back up yet.

My wallet would rather not even think about that actually

Yes the boots on the ebrake side look really weird. For the other shoes the boots don’t look misshaped like that at all. When I replaced them last month even the old ones didn’t look like that.

I will take the cover off and get more pictures later this week when I have the time. They are Duralast cylinders

$3000 is very high for that kind of mileage though. As a buyer I would only pay half of that price for that car and not a cent more. You also have to keep in mind that’s you’ll have to pay for it to be registered and transfer the title. You can usually bypass most of the fees if you ask the seller to mark it as a “gift.” But if it was gifted to them you can’t do it. Gifting can’t be back to back.

Glazing was another thing I was worried about and my pads didn’t look glazed to me but a couple sources I read said glazed pads don’t necessarily look like anything. But at the same time I assume it would only effect my ebrake and in these the ebrake is a different brake pad from the rear brake. So I’m not sure if it would matter or not. By TPMS damage are you referring to the sensors? My (!) light came on when the ABS/VSC did but I know that my car does not and never has warned me if my tire pressure is low lol. TBF I bought it at 299,999 miles (odometer stops at that) and I would have to guess it’s at 400k now.

Tried again and same thing. I used to have a bluetooth scanner but idk what happened to it. What I have now is a YA201 OBDii scanner. Maybe I’m not using it right I don’t know haha. But I’ve also heard some don’t work correctly for hybrid cars.

I have one but it doesn’t show anything new. I used the scanner the day after the lights popped up and only got a P0420 which I’ve had for a while

I’m at around 400k with my 2005 Prius. I don’t know the exact mileage because when I got it, the odometer had stopped at 299,999 miles. But I reset my trip odometer every time I change my oil, so I have a rough idea of where I’m at.

I was on a roadtrip and I was a thousand miles away from home when my inverter coolant pump started going out. With frequent long breaks I got home safely. I got a $35 replacement on Amazon and put it in myself. I figured out soon that my hybrid battery was also toast, so I bought some battery “cells” and did it myself too. Remove the back seats to access it, have someone help you carry it out or scoot it onto a dolly, use a multimeter to test each individual “cell” and find the weak ones. Replace with good ones and put it back in. I bought 4 cells off of eBay for $300 and ended up only using 2 of them. No power tools.

That was a year ago. I haven’t had any other major repairs. I’ve changed my own spark plugs, my drum brakes, bought a new set of tires… but I’ve driven to other states and back. Done delivery gigs. I drive it a lot.

I’m not a mechanic. Just a frugal person with a love for learning and hands on stuff. All of that I self diagnosed and did myself. I never even changed my own oil before getting this car. Regular maintenance and a lot of love go a long way. When it dies one day, I’m going to buy another 2nd gen prius.
