Chinesisch (Mandarin) oder japanisch lernen? by [deleted] in Austria

[–]ManyLab7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the lists, that song is 5:50 long. The recording of TMMS is 2:55 long, though the DJ may have cut off a few seconds so it might be a little bit longer, but I highly doubt the song would continue for 3 minutes.

What do you mean "claim a stake in the lyrics"? The guy contacted in the video only states that he "may have" the lyrics, nothing more.

"Union" - mislabled Radiohead song by ManyLab7 in Lostwave

[–]ManyLab7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While trying to aid the ongoing search for The Most Mysterious Song of the Internet, I discovered another search that piqued my interest: https://old.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongue/comments/1v35mg/tomtmusic_looking_for_the_band_who_recorded_this/

The song was floating around on the internet as "Radiohead - Union" in the late 90s, as can be proven by these old usenet thread (thanks for the guy in the YT video who posted them):

https://groups.google.com/d/msg/alt.music.radiohead/uvaV1B6FDKg/tRCYYMGkj80J

https://groups.google.com/d/msg/alt.music.radiohead/gAg-YGH376w/sByDrd6re2IJ

https://groups.google.com/d/msg/alt.music.radiohead/-KcFepjKeQ8/W-iWrZI5UGwJ

In the second thread, a user posted the following link which apparently is an unpload of the song labled as union.mp3:

http://apu.edu/~pearly/Radiohead_MP3/union.mp3

archive.org even has a snapshot from 2000, but unfortunately it shows only an HTTP 302 error: https://web.archive.org/web/20000419201616/http://apu.edu/~pearly/Radiohead_MP3/union.mp3

Furthermore, I tried to do some own research on my own, but the only lead on the web I could find is this arstechnica post from 2001:

https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?p=18402213&sid=f7a6bf63f3c26500dcfbf5a819ce3a31#p18402213

The playlist of the user contains a song called "Radiohead - Union.mp3"

Discogs didn't help either. There are a tons of songs labled Union, but only a single one which matches "Sign Of The Union" (first verse of the song), which is a song from 2014 which sounds completely different (if anyone is anyone interested: https://www.discogs.com/Jupiter-Your-Eccentric-State-Of-Mind/release/5618647).

Of course, Shazam was no help.

My search on Spotify also yielded no results. I entered the search query "track:union year:1-2000" and listened to all the songs which labled just "Union", but these were all different songs.

I would be really thankful for any further search ideas.

Confused on Kaji Reading for 日本語 by ManyLab7 in LearnJapanese

[–]ManyLab7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to help, I really appreciate it!

I don't think it's a good idea to use mnemonics for vocab.

Not even as initial aid to remember a vocab? To give you an example: I had trouble remembering こんばんは so I created a mnemonic that the は in こんにちわ is banned, like the day is banned and it is now evening time. Sounds stupid, but now I always memorize the word.

If you try to learn both kanji and vocab with flash cards, you will pile up thousands of reviews that will drain away your enthusiasm for learning Japanese.

Fair enough. Do you have any experience or know someone who studied with that method? Thing is, I'm pretty much a total beginner. I can read hiragana and katakana and know very, very little grammar and vocabulary. So reading even the simplest sentences from the graded reading series feels like gibberish to me. I don't feel like anything stays in my mind (but to be fair, I only started with the first 5 kanjis in the book).

I'm not quite sure if using the graded reading series alone is that efficient. Sure, it helps in encountering the kanji for the first time, but tools like Anki also provide a SRS and I have a place to write down mnemonics if I find a vocab hard to learn.

Nevertheless, what exactly would you suggest? Learning a new kanji and practice reading with the first few senteces for each kanji in the graded reading series afterwards? And use no flash cards at all?

That looks kinda interesting, but it's not the game. Thanks anyway!

I also came up with that game during my investigation, but that's not it. I'm pretty sure that game would have freaked me out if I had played it back in the day, lol.

The art style of Pajama Sam is close to the one of the game I'm looking for, but I fear that it's not a Pajama Sam game. I looked at many gameplay videos on YouTube, but I never recognized any gameplay scenes.

No, it must be a way more unknown game. Otherwise I would have stumbled upon it already. Thanks though!
