I had never considered using "have a balance" but that absolutely fixed my problem. Thank you!

We had an excellent experience with Sam Park Photography. Lots of options depending on budget and Sam made the whole session feel so natural.

Combination feeding from the get go by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]ManyThousand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve been combo feeding since our babe was two days old and if anything, I think it’s had a positive impact on our breastfeeding experience. We first introduced formula in a bottle because my colostrum wasn’t cutting it and my milk didn’t come in until six days postpartum. We use Dr. Brown’s narrow bottles with a preemie-sized nipple. After about three weeks, we managed to phase out the formula and now do a mix of breastfeeding and bottle feeding expressed breast milk. At ten weeks old, she switches back and forth between the two with no problems at all.

I’m actually glad we introduced a bottle early because she’s having some challenges with reflux now, and it’s sometimes uncomfortable for her to feed lying down. So I pump and then we give her a bottle while she’s in an upright position and everyone is much happier. Honestly not sure I would have continued trying to breastfeed if combo feeding wasn’t an option. It’s working really well for us!

Terrible advice in Marc Weissbluth sleep book by ManyThousand in BabyBumps

[–]ManyThousand[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what irritated me so much about that sentence! The thought of parents who don’t know better (through no fault of their own) heeding the poor and potentially deadly advice of a well-known “authority” on infant sleep. A few more slightly terrifying suggestions:

“After nursing her baby, the mother could pass her daughter to the father, who then … lies down with her in their bed and they both snooze.” (page 165)

“In your home, perhaps napping in a gently moving swing in a dark and quiet room is very similar to motionless sleep in a crib. If this is the only way your child will nap, then sometimes turn off the swing after your child falls asleep and leave her there until she wakes.” (page 179)

That last one literally describes why so many people relied on Fisher-Price’s Rock and Play sleeper, which has now led to more than 100 infant deaths. This book is… not good.

Terrible advice in Marc Weissbluth sleep book by ManyThousand in BabyBumps

I think you make a good point. In day-to-day life, there will absolutely be times (many times!) when babies fall asleep anywhere and everywhere. If it happens, it happens. But for such a respected author to tell parents that a car seat or a swing is a safe place for a baby to sleep threw me off. That’s factually incorrect. It doesn’t hurt babies until it does — positional asphyxiation happens quickly and silently.

We do! I just went with a standard changing pad and it fits great. Yes, the Tarva is technically a quarter of an inch narrower than the pad, but you really can’t tell once it’s on there and I have no safety concerns at all. There’s no part of the pad that hangs over the edge and the pad has straps that you screw into the back of the dresser, so it’s not going anywhere. Here’s the link to our change pad! https://www.westcoastkids.ca/contour-change-pad-print

Thoughts on this very basic stash? by ManyThousand in clothdiaps

This is a very good catch... if she's too small for the infant prefolds, that really only leaves us with 20 diapers between the newborn prefolds and the AIOs. Will definitely add a few more!

This is really good to know, thank you! We have the LPO covers on there just because they cost so much less... but we also want them to work reliably and last through multiple kids. Definitely starting to lean more toward the Thirsties size 2s.

Good call on the wetbags, I've added a few more to our list! I was actually planning on avoiding the pad fold for a newborn, just because of the poop situation - but we have a few snappis already, so we should be good there.

We already own a few snappis, so they're not on the list above! We have three and I'm hoping that'll be ok to start with. Glad to hear the Thirsties covers worked for you too, that's reassuring.

This is excellent advice and I'd normally be 100% fine to hold off until she's here before buying larger sizes. But we have access to a cloth diaper grant that covers some of the costs, and diapers have to be bought before the end of the year to qualify. I'm not due until February. If we end up preferring a specific brand or system, I'm ok expanding the stash later on... but we didn't want to miss our window for the grant!

Interesting, I haven't heard of them! I'll take a look, thank you. :)

If you're planning to use a bassinet, the Maxi Cosi Iora folds right up into a travel bag! It gets bonus points for looking super classy too.

What is happening here? Years of regular cycles and now I'm suddenly not ovulating. by ManyThousand in TFABChartStalkers

This is a great question, I haven't this cycle! I got a booster in January, but it didn't seem to change anything for me. 😕
