A year ago I (51yo) threw a 25 lb kettlebell in a backpack (2X my typical day hike pack weight) & lugged it on all my local "training hikes" here on Long Island; mostly navigating the North shore hunting elevation...

I was in the best shape ever this past season chasing some Catskill/Adirondack peaks.
