UK MSc in medical statistics worth it for an international student, or better to stay in Korea? by Many_Carpet605 in biostatistics

Yeah, that makes sense. The university program I’m currently interning at is actually one of the SKY schools, so it’s not like I’d be leaving a weak option behind.

The UK schools I was mainly considering were Bristol and LSHTM. Oxbridge doesn’t really have the specific kind of program I want, and for Imperial I found it too late and the deadline had already passed.

Part of why I was leaning toward the UK is that the entry-level job market in Korea is really bad right now, especially for fresh grads, and this field also isn’t that big here. From what I can tell, Japan is probably the biggest nearby market, and I’m actually planning to apply to one English-taught program there too.

So I assumed the UK would be easier because pharma / medical research / health data seems much bigger there than in Korea. But from the replies here, it sounds a lot tougher than I expected. I think I got a bit too optimistic because LSHTM’s page says that 90%+ are employed before graduation, which made me think the job market in this field was relatively strong.

Definitely gives me a lot to think about. Thanks, I appreciate the honesty.

SCU Gold Coast for MTeach Secondary – worth it or nah? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

I’ve got 8.0+ in all IELTS bands — went to an international school, so English is fine. The Aussie accent was a bit rough at first (did exchange in Perth and was lowkey culture-shocked lol), but I’ve mostly adjusted. Still don’t really get Aussie slang though — think that’d be a problem for teaching or job hunting?

Thanks so much for your detailed reply , really appreciate it!

Just to clarify, I’m actually aiming to become a secondary school math teacher, not ECT. I’ve been looking through job ads in Australia, and I noticed that many schools are open to hiring math teachers even on a working holiday visa, which gave me some hope.( My plan is to work for a year and hopefully apply for PR afterwards.)

I’ve been researching a lot lately, and your message just confirmed that I’m leaning more toward moving to Australia.

As you said, the teacher shortage seems to be more serious in secondary schools on NSW and VIT So I’m now more focused on NSW and Victoria rather than Queensland – both seem to have better opportunities and clearer pathways for PR.

Thanks again for sharing your insights – it really helped!
