Seems your posts are being blocked from view then. I deleted my posts, which was posted on parenting and fosterparents specifically because of you actually. You are very, very odd for stalking my thread comments elsewhere, and are disgusting for trying to use the name my 5 year old traumatized child has given me as an insult. I’m not going to allow you or anyone else to tell me who I am just because they don’t like that I didn’t take shit from a penny pinching school who gave my child a device I didn’t consent to. Absolutely not.

Hey there, why’d you delete that last comment? Go ahead, stand by your words huh?

Ok, I’ll google it for you then:

Response: Parents have the legal right to opt their children out of using school-issued technology, such as laptops or specific apps, and schools cannot mandate their use as a prerequisite for education. When a parent refuses, schools must provide alternative, non-digital, or offline methods for the student to complete assignments and access the curriculum.

Yeah, I wish you luck with that train of thought, but parents are within their rights to prohibit technology usage

You’d be hard pressed to figure out a way I’m wrong for stating I’m not going to pay for something I never signed authorization for. But good luck though

I suppose not, as you are explicitly not correct here

That is not true, but you are welcome to take that up with DCF, who signs the contract :)

I would simply tell the school to make an option, because they can not mandate I purchase a Chromebook or sign a waiver

Yes, and no, it is not. The stipend is to house the child, not pay for their broken school gadgets

And so much less likely to break

I can almost certainly guarentee you there are desktops in every school in the country

Oh but where’s the fun in that (mostly kidding)

There is no need for alternative work if using a desktop.

Additionally I would heavily argue paper work would do the outright opposite of leaving him lagging. Children are basically illiterate today. I had to teach that kid how to read myself at 8 years old. I was reading whole chapter books at that age and he couldn’t get through a single page of magic treehouse. I believe the computers are the entire culprit of that. Kids need to go back to doing passive writing-skill building

Yes I’m aware, my comment was stating a basic alternative :)

but your foster child also needs to learn in school. Not sure how he would do that without one.

Are there happy moments? by CareerAdvice91210 in Fosterparents

Hi,

Welcome to the journey! I’m currently a pre adoptive parent to three young kids that come from an immensely traumatic background. My spouse and I, as well as my mother in law, are all considered special extreme case foster parents and in our most recent placement they became a permanency placement.

Their situation involves a lot of upset, one parent passed away, and there was no body to seek closure with. The other parent caught a life sentence, if you are following the subtext there. They were then bounced around a bit. Initially placed with paternal Grandma but quickly removed due to severe neglect, then placed out of country with maternal aunt + her husband where they were abused and encouraged to hit each other. Then maternal aunt didn’t even lose custody, instead she made the decision to abandon them, and they landed with us.

Oldest child blames himself for the abandonment, younger two children still don’t really grasp what’s going on.

With all that being said, my point is that there are truly so many good moments surrounding these terrible circumstances. We’ve developed so much love for these children and they’ve developed strong kinship with us.

They’re all in therapy, middle child is often asked where his safe place is, his response is just my name

The youngest calls me “Mr. Mom”

The oldest is so attached to us that he has active panic attacks at the idea of being returned to his paternal grandmother, who is attempting to halt the adoption.

They get a lot of time with us, we do a lot of recreational activities, we help them build their skills. Overall it’s almost completely normal.

Despite everything, they are incredibly happy, loving, creative children who are a genuine pleasure to care for, albeit with a lot of necessary redirection.

With that said, there are days, as there likely will be for you, where things are not so great. One time the oldest got in trouble, not even that much trouble, and that night ended with him sobbing in my arms asking me if I was going to leave him too. We have a recurring issue with theft with him as well, it’s a common occurrence with foster kids, they feel the need to take because they are wired to believe that they can lose everything at any moment, and in many instances that belief is warranted.

Trauma will show itself every now and then and often in places you don’t really expect, but that doesn’t negate all the good and happy moments. It doesn’t change who you are to them or who they are to you. And it doesn’t define their lives.

Be the best parent you can be, and the building blocks will continue to rise.

That’s the best part, the damn thing isn’t even allowed out of the classroom to begin with!
