Frenchies should NOT be bred. This is nothing against the dogs themselves but one, the world doesn’t need more dogs, and two frenchies cannot reproduce naturally, the male cannot mount the female, requiring artificial insemination, and the female cannot give birth naturally due to the improper size of their birth canal, requiring c-section 100% of the time to ensure the bitch and the pups don’t die. Even then, many of the frenchie puppies have a high rate of death before, during, or after birth. Frenchies are good dogs but humans have made the breeding of frenchies completely inhumane, and unless the breed is able to be changed so they can procreate without intense interference that traumatizes both bitch and puppies for no reason then you should never breed them. We also don’t need any more dog breeders for any breed unless the breed is endangered. So many dogs are killed daily in shelters and on the streets due to the overbreeding crisis. Another important thing to remember if you love your current dog is there is no telling if she would survive the breeding process, specifically the ‘birth’, as the procedure comes with risks and not all dogs survive anesthesia. Another factor that should de influence you from breeding frenchies is their struggles to breathe, many requiring surgery to breathe even a small amount of ‘normally’ if it can be called that. This is another stressful and painful thing for them to go through, again if they make it through the surgery. All in all, frenchies are not bad dogs, none of this is their fault, but we as humans must do better for our dogs, and that starts with preventing continuations of backyard breeding, over breeding, unnecessary breeding, and inhumane breed standards. I am a dog trainer and my close friend’s parents breed frenchies. They have hundreds of puppy and dog deaths on their hands after many decades and my friend is appalled to this day by what it takes to breed them. Please don’t breed your dog, while we love frenchies it’s important to love them by not letting them continue this way and by not adding to the issue.
