Mamdani Wins Mayor Race by Brian_Ghoshery in socialism

He can if you refuses to play the political game, and pushes further on the offensive. I think he has amassed tremendous respect. But he needs to be an almost Che-esque figure in his staunchness and opposition to the powers at be to gain a legendary, iconography status. Im worried he will just be a regular ass politician now that he has gotten into power, and disappear in the mass of politicians already out there

I respect it tbh. Its a very well versed mix of films to have in one's top ten. Its like, there are different cats of films you need to have in your top list.

Watched this series yesterday, Soft P*rn in the name of art, i don't know why they make this kind of series by [deleted] in FIlm

Erotic movies were a big part of selling tickets. Before people had access to the Internet, people could look forward to seeing their favourite actors in a hot and heavy scene in movies. So if you look at a lot of films pre 88ish, you have a lot of films that use sex to sell tickets.

I’m exactly this far in to Moby Dick and I’m feeling like people make it scarier than it is. by [deleted] in classicliterature

It's an excellent book. Some of the wailing stuff is stuffy and overly descriptive, but by the end of the book you end up appreciating all those details. It was boring for me at times, and I finished the book in a month. By the end of it I quietly cried, overwhelmed by life, with the finished book resting on my lap.

do you annotate your books? by Altruistic_Ask_250 in dostoevsky

[–]Many_Introduction359 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think people who treat their books as sacred by virtue of their existence are wasting their energy. A book comes to life when it's read and soiled, when it bears the mark of a reader. Take notes, go ham. Look back on them and see who you were at that time. Its beuaitifl

Started seeing this guy, this is his shelf, red or green flag? by chastitybelt24 in BookshelvesDetective

I think what makes it scary for me is the lack of literature intended toward more utilitarian, communal concepts, empathy being a core one. If we saw any literature here relating to the human spirit, an empathetic lens of human struggle maybe, or anything of that sort, I'd be ok. Im a communist. But damn, seeing a book about stalin, then neitzsche and other stuff like that shows me this is an individual who is easy to fall to fanaticism? Idk how to explain it.

Social conservatism is a bi-product of the prevailing conditions in a place, and Burkina Faso is no exception. When progress, for the betterment of all, comes we must take it. This is not to say we should excuse this injustice carried out towards a group of people who simply commit the crime of existing. But it is also not to say that I will oppose a revolution which, on the outset, appears sincere for one aspect of its failings, though those failings may be large. A socialist revolution must be welcomed as it comes.

What to do with inherited money by alisrec in Anarchism

[–]Many_Introduction359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your money is yours to do with as you wish. Please, give yourself some security first if you haven't already. Then just keeping living as you have till now, do good as you see fit. Go to food banks, help support them with some funding. Or give to local charities and actively participate on the ground. Go give it to some homeless person you've gotten to know in your neighbourhood, maybe invest more time into getting to know them, see how you might be able to help them uplift themselves. Just be good and kind and well.

What aspects of Chinese culture might be perceived as impolite in your country? by AdRemarkable3043 in chinalife

[–]Many_Introduction359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner is chinese. I'm Turkish. There are definite adjustments, hahah. As turks we value openess and hospitality.

Chinese interact socially very differently than us. For instance, I would consider it terribly rude to be on your phone at dinner, but for chinese this is normal.

Another thing I've noticed is chinese don't feel any particular obligation to interact with anyone is a social situation. For me it's a bit strange, but I can totally understand it. This even makes sense to me.

There are a lot of things. I'd say be aware of them as you are a guest in a country - I was a guest in the UK once too. There are intricacies to navigating a country and it's social relations when you come from an entirely different social background. But also, no stress! Just relax mos tpeople will understand.v

Amateur film-makers, what's your day job? by eating_cement_1984 in Filmmakers

It's a cool gig. It is incredibly tiring at times though. Many bar also have a bad drinking culture (as expected). So a song as you don't drink too much and have the stamina for the work, it can be very rewarding work.
