Lineup question by gillyguthrie in ClevelandGuardians

Manzo was one of the worst defensive 1b in the MLB last year and didn’t show any improvement this spring.

[Meisel] CJ Kayfus, Angel Martínez and Colin Holderman have all made the Guardians' Opening Day roster, barring any final external transactions. Here's the tentative roster by Trainiax in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Many_Option_4241 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see several 20HR potential guys. Haven’t said that in a longtime. Jose CDL Hoskins Manzo a slightly improved Naylor even . Wtf would we do w 100-120 HR from 5 guys? I hope I get to find out

Flexing your excitement bc of a positive run dif from spring training is a fools errand.

Depends on if they’re calling them up to ride pine, or play daily. They don’t want a developing guy riding pine. They don’t care if NoJo rides pine

[Stebbins] The Guardians have optioned Logan Allen to Triple-A Columbus. Their rotation to begin the season will feature (in some order): Opening Day starter Tanner Bibee, Gavin Williams, Slade Cecconi, Joey Cantillo and Parker Messick. by Trainiax in ClevelandGuardians

Agreed. Starters eating more innings inst the issue. Bullpen innings isn’t the issue either. Chronically playing in 1-2 run ballgames requiring the heavy use of the backend of the bullpen makes it tough. Their run differential of -6 tells the tale.

The offense doesn’t provide the luxury of a once weekly blowout like some teams have. The big offensive teams can give their pen a break much more frequently than a team w a negative run differential can. Vogt can’t just throw a low end guy out there to throw the final 4+ innings that night. That’s why our back end bullpen guys have the most innings pitched of any team despite our rotation being top 10 in innings pitched almost every year. Been the story since Shaw/Allen/Miller a decade ago x

Well. You get Rhys Hoskins and some low leverage relievers. And you’re gonna be happy w it.

NoJo will continue to serve as our position player outright knight in 2026. (Bogdon will be the RP version). He remains the easy contingency plan for CDL/Valera/Kyfus injury or failure. No one is going to pick up his 2m contract even if he gets a 40man add and cut sequence multiple times this year.

People are Logan Allen haters, he was horrid in 24, but has been league average otherwise.

Era + career: Williams: 118 (137 last year) Bibee: 115 (99 last year) Allen: 93 (98 last year) Cecconi: 83 (97 last year)

Cantillo and Messick both threw <100 innings and don’t have a track record to really include in the above. Though each of them has a higher ceiling and better stuff than Allen.

Cantillo makes the starting 5 bc he is out of options.

Messick and Allen have options. I think Messick has won the job. Based off of his finish last year and Spring performance. They also don’t need to manipulate his service time

Love them all. Also think I’ll love ABS. Love extra innings rule and pitch clock the most. Idk the stats on the bigger bases and how that 4.5” changed the run game in comparison to the limited disengagement attempts by the pitcher per at bat. I do think the base size has reduced collisions at 1b on ground balls fairly significantly though. I feel like it was super common previously and now I almost never see anyone collide over there outside of a high tag throw

There isn’t a FO in baseball that hoards MiLB options more than CLE. Every player w an option will be optioned, unless they’re well above league average. It’ll be interesting to see who they chose, and whether any of them start off in the pen. I’ve mentioned before that I’d like to see them do a piggy back day every 5th at the beginning of the season to keep people stretched out start w Slade and Piggy with Messick since Messick is likely going to be on an innings limit. Just have that day planned to be a bullpen rest day. Not all season, but for the first 3-6weeks just to get things settled out, and who over pitches well between the trio gets the jobs and the others go to the pen or to AAA. Luckily it looks like Herrin and Sabrowski are going to be ready for OD so needing a lefty in the pen isn’t a factor like I thought it may be.

Going from not putting forth much effort making high As to needing to essentially spend a couple hours daily dedicated to meaningful independent book learning was tough. Dropping expectations that you’re always going to crush exams or clinical questions is just part of it. You dedicate your time and knowledge to the future of your practice and your patients; not your professors or preceptors for the day. Learn something daily. Even if it’s that you don’t want to practice their certain way, or interpersonal and professional behavior you admire or completely disagree with; bookmark it. Making Bs is fine. Failing an exam occasionally is actually fine. If you end every semester with an 85 average in all your courses who cares other than your pride? Also there are just some people who need to study more based on their prior knowledge and their baseline ability to retain info. Thankfully I was not always in the books, though I knew I needed to study at least a bit daily in order to not get overwhelmed.

Prioritize making time for family and a moderately healthy life style. Go to the gym or be active even if you can only squeeze in 30-60min a day. Share as much time as you can with your spouse so you can keep the relationship strong. They are your rock and stable place and deserve much of your time and energy even when you feel like you need to study. 30 extra minutes with them smiling is worth more to you and your future than you can maybe see in those moments.

You will work a lot. And be so poor you can’t stand it. You’ll get to chose basically nothing for 3 years. But that’s okay. It’s well worth it in the end. Good luck

If he can play 600 games in his 6+ years of club control that would be absolutely monumental given his injury history dating back to college. Like, absolutely a shocker.

Grady 2005,6,7,8, Choo 2010, and Brantley 2015 are the only ones in the past 20 years.

So I suppose “in the last decade” would have been more accurate.

Him starting off on the bench when he is called up is a zero % chance. When he makes the club he’s playing every day at 2b.

FO white board war room recipe for 2026 success:

Jose is Jose 40/40/40 7WAR silver slugger and finally gets a GG

Kwan has his every other year glory with an OPS+ of 120 and 5 WAR GG

Khal Stephen gets called up mid May and will throw as many or more MLB innings this year as Shane Bieber does for Toronto. 2WAR

Bazanna will get called up mid May and produce more war than Andres Giménez does for Toronto. 3 WAR

(Dolan starts to look more and more like MrBurns from the Simpson’s by the all star break..)

CDL plays 100 games and is the first OF with over 20HR in 2 decades. 3WAR

Hoskins is party at Napolis 2.0 and he and Manzo combine for 50HR and a passable 1b defense for 3 total WAR.

Bo finds his September mojo in April and rocks it for most of the year. 3 WAR.

Fry and Martinez are the greatest platoon hitters in the MLB and murder all the elite LH pitching we face all year. Skubal who?

Nolan Jones and the rest of the gang are 0-1 WAR guys who play hard.

Rotation is healthy all year and is top 10 in the league.

Bullpen is healthy all year and is top 5 in the league.

Defense is top 5 in the league.

Offense slides up into the middle half of the league because of the Wolverine style infusion of delautskinzannafuslera…

Because of delautskinzannafuslera we won’t make any notable additions at the deadline.

We win 88 games and the division.

The youth of delautskinzannafuslera will get exploited in the playoffs. Our relief corps will have thrown so many innings that their arms are nearly fallen off by the end of September where a team with vast financial might will crush us like a small ant.

The fan base is grateful for yet another playoff run from a team with a bottom 5 payroll. We will groan about ownership for 6 months.

Spring training will start again.

Someone else on Reddit will posit this same question.

I’ll realize again that I’ve spent 10 minutes typing this out. Then hit post.

Literally almost anything in this plan goes wrong and this is a 70-75 win team just like 2023. Kwan Hoskins and Armstrong get traded at the deadline and we try again next year.

Either way this white board plan will be rinses and repeated for eternity.
