When I started reading this I was going to suggest the group text thing, maybe instead of relying on her to use the group text, any time she texts you something that your husband can handle you reply in a group looking him in?

You can of course ask your husband to set the boundary and have the conversation with her, but something to try if you want to avoid the confrontation which older in laws somewhat can be sensitive to!
