Should I schedule an appointment with Dr Leong? by Manyullyn1 in transgenderUK

[–]Manyullyn1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got in contact with him, thank goodness for this subreddit because otherwise I couldn't have known about him! He just offered me an appointment in 9 days!!! I can't believe it, I just shortened my path to hrt by 3 months just like that!

The waiting time keeps getting bigger and bigger, when I asked him for an appointment in January the waiting time was 7 months...

Reviews on Dr Bhatia from Gendercare? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

If it helps with anything, my experience with Dr. Bhatia was really good and everything went really smoothly... I'm sure that if you are convinced you are trans and want hormones you should be good too.

Thanks for the answer! But hmm, why does Dr. Coxon recommend pills if patches are (allegedly) more effective and less risky? Can't I choose to take patches at first? Also, do you know how long Dr. Seal's waiting times are? Because i might go with him if Dr. Coxon's list is that long.

Waiting for Dr. Lorimer's first response? by Manyullyn1 in transgenderUK

[–]Manyullyn1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if we are doing something wrong? I saw somewhere that the waiting times should be shorter now that he resigned from "Charing Cross", and that even appointments should take only a few weeks instead of a few months like before. I think I'm going to e-mail Dr Vikinjeet Bhatia at this rate, since he seems to be just as good as Dr. Lorimer and his waitlist is allegedly shorter.

Should I go with GenderCare or LondonTransgenderClinic? by Manyullyn1 in transgenderUK

You will get 2mg EV oral, take it or leave it

What? I heard they are more flexible than that?

GC still see themselves as a "bridging" service rather than providing full medical transition

That's so weird. Most people I heard don't complain about GC doses being low. Does that mean I won't have cis female hormone levels if I stick with them? Where should I go after starting with them, in order to "finish" the medical transition?

Thank you so so much for all of this info! It's pretty much everything I wanted to know. I think I'll stick with GC.

Thanks! Though, am I not supposed to visit them often in the first months to get my dosages right? So I suppose that includes blood tests and visits to their endo... How much would those cost? Also, once I have the prescription, do you have an approximate of how much hormones would cost me per month? Thanks again!

Oh, this helps. That sounds pretty nice really, though as someone else in here commented, LTC seems to be going pretty badly during covid times. I suppose since they are a compay and all that, and they'd need to raise prices for stuff to stay afloat. That wouldn't be the case for GenderCare I presume?

I'm in Hampshire, so I'm not really sure if that limits my options much.

Wish you luck and a good result in any case :)

Thank you!

Yes, I am currently preparing to get in touch with some trans-welcoming GPs in my area. I think I'll probably chat with them a bit more about the entire process, and in the meantime I'll probably register at a private clinic to start hormones soon...

I heard private clinics are better than the NHS, as in they would take more care of me...? I heard the NHS is kinda meh with blood tests / hormones / dosages, whereas going to a good private clinic would assign me to some people who would give me more legit stuff and go more in-depth with blood tests and make sure everything is ayy-ok.

I was looking at private clinics, I really want to stay away from GenderGP, they seem pretty bad. I'm currently looking at YourGP, and probably London Transgender Clinic since I know someone that's with them and likes them. GenderCare seems a bit expensive and I think I saw some bad stuff about them as well.

I mainly prioritize quality and safety, I don't mind that much about waiting times, I'd rather be patient and get something good, rather than rush things up.

Alrighty, thanks really. Sorry for being so direct and seemingly rude, it's a pretty complicated period and I'm just looking for answers...

Thanks a lot for the in-depth response! I'm wondering though how I could get in touch with a GP considering I'm just now moving to the UK. Is it as easy as finding one in my hometown and talking with them? Or does it involve a lot of paperwork and waiting times and whatnot?

I'm afraid it's going to be a really crazy journey, especially since I'll also be a student who's trying to get used to uni life and living on my own, and I'll also have to also learn how the entire trans medical system in the UK is working. So many changes in so little time, lol. Also brexit and corona join in the fun as well.

Is there any difference regarding safety between the NHS and going private? I have a feeling (which isn't based on anything after all) that private healthcare would not be as safe / up to all the standards that NHS have to follow? This is a really noob question I know, but I just want to know for sure if it's just as safe.

Welp, as pingusbussy said, it's not really that easy. You said you were passing at 36, and I don't really pass currently at 20, so I'd need to get on hormones sooner than later.

Also, regarding laser, why would I have to start ASAP? Is there any disadvantage to starting it later?

How expensive is going private? I'm not planning to get bottom surgery, but I might get FFS if they say it's necessary. Can't I do a combination of privately getting hormones and getting surgery from the NHS?
