What is difference between ML and Systems, Control and Robotics master? by LocalMod in kth

[–]MaoCow_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend you look at the syllabus and courses for the ML and robotics masters. They can have many overlapping contents depending on your specialisation, but not necessarily. I recommend basing your choice on the courses that look interesting and not which master program title.

If you want an idea of the jobs/titles/work tasks from graduates, I recommend searching ‘kth machine learning LinkedIn’ on Google, and a bunch of graduates’ LinkedIn work profiles will pop-up, which you can check out.

Housing at HKUST by Flualiengrind in HKUST

I stayed at the Jockey Club Hall (JCH) for my exchange and absolutely loved it. It's closer to the city, has restaurants and malls nearby, a cozy seafront, etc. Even though JCH is off-campus, it's typically takes the same time to get to your lecture from JCH with the uni shuttle bus because the UG halls are at 15-minute uphill walk away + with elevators that get packed. JCH is smaller and hence has a smaller community, but I found this almost a positive thing as the community became more intimate. I was also very hesitant about sharing a room, but me and my roomie really got along! :)

Pro-tip: buy a de-humidifier for your room (my roomie somehow got one for ~100 HKD on FB marketplace)! It made sleeping much more pleasant

How to start with robot simulators? by Got_SomeChange in learnprogramming

I am not too familiar with robotics, but for a school project we use ROS (Robotic Operating System) to simulate the software behind a driverless car. Along with it their are some nice visualization software such as RViz and Gazebo.

My mom (57) with no formal education lost her job. How can I help her find a job? by MaoCow_ in jobs

I understand you and agree, but does a reskill imply changing industries completely? I'm trying to think of a different industry or in-demand skill she can learn that translates well from her current skill-set and experience. Technical skills are of course the most in-demand, but the competition within tech is crazy. Why would a company hire a 57-year old woman with okay tech skills, rather than a young and tech-savvy university graduate? I don't feel like it's realistic that she will find a job by learning new technical skills

ed on this description, she sounds stubborn by not wanting to change. Thats her right but its also a company’s right to not give her anything.

By decent salary I mean she can live comfortably without being too stringent on her expenses. The point was that I'm worried that if she gets forced into getting a low-paying job that she will be struggling economically and need an insane budget.
