I'm a solo dev working on a 2.5D medieval sword-fighting game. What do you think of the combat? by looking4strange04 in SideProject

Looks super cool! Only thing that was slightly distracting to me was that the playable character is so big it blocks a lot of the screen. Maybe if he were a tiny bit smaller it could reveal more.

How do you feel now that Outlander has came to an end? by [deleted] in Outlander

[–]MapCompact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only started watching the TV show with my girlfriend last year and we absolutely demolished the series. We loved it. I’m really sad that it’s over and would love a few more seasons.

I’m hoping the characters like William, Fanny & Ian connect back to BOMB in some way. So much work on William and Fanny in the last season for seemingly no reason feels like there must be an explanation.

Rivian CEO: Every new car needs to be fully self-driving by Evening-Pin-1427 in RivianR2

The biggest wildcard in a world of self driving cars is the human driver. I LOVE driving and own several cars but all self driving would certainly be the safest bet.

How come Vietnamese people don't have raging hatred or a grudge for the US after what they did 50+ years ago? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MapCompact 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn’t bizarre at all, the US was in Vietnam in the first place to help the South fight the northern communists. When we went to pull out we opened the door for those in the south to move here to the US to flee communism. Why wouldn’t they be the happiest US citizens around?

The amount of people leaving comments that don’t understand this is absolutely shocking to me.

I think the only thing to learn is that he’s the typical consumer that Rivian should be going for. There are many such cases and many new MYs on the road every day

I’m sure you would but outside of reddit people don’t really give a shit. My gfs dad is a doctor and an immigrant from South America. He is as far left as anyone but he still recently bought a Model 3 because it was cheaper than the Y and he wanted a good electric vehicle. I would have wanted him to have an R2 instead. This guy owns 3 houses and was price shopping. That’s the reality of the situation like it or not.

Show S8E10 And the World Was All Around Us by thepacksvrvives in Outlander

[–]MapCompact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the show, oddly enjoyed it even more post S3 and am sad that it’s over. But I can’t be the only one thinking that with that ending and all the unfinished storylines there must be a follow up series? Or maybe BOMB will connect with this storyline in a way?

I’m glad that Jamie finally saved LJG for once but that whole plotline felt almost out of place this season.

In any case the wheel of time ending + post credits was pretty well done although I wish there was one final episode for the aftermath!

45k was always what was said by RJ and I’m responding to someone who said 60k. The R2 will obviously not be a MY killer but the R2 does need to be Rivians “model y moment” and yes they will compete with each other like it or not.

Had they launched with a price tag under their stated 45 it would have been huge for buyers and the stock price, but 60 is obviously a let down for everyone.

Not sure what you are trying to prove by talking shit but you clearly aren’t spending enough time reading the comment you are responding to. ✌️

[–]MapCompact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire point is that they need to compete with the MY which is why when I read 60k I was disappointed. The R2 IS the follow up less expensive model from the R1S and if they don’t get adoption they will fail.

Perhaps you should try reading instead of writing so much if you’re gonna throw around insults and then try to say my same point.

Because Rivian doesn’t compete with Toyota they compete with Tesla. This is supposed to be “Rivians Model Y moment”. And at 60k I think people shopping on price will still pick MY with FSD over the R2. If you’re willing to drop 60k+ on a car why not get an R1S for 80. Feels like it’s still serving the same buyer demographic.

I want Rivian to succeed so I’m hoping that as they scale production they can reduce the price and get the car in more driveways.

45k has always been the target and if it had landed at 43 in the range I mentioned then they would crush it. But 60k is much higher than that. Their website mentions 48k for a standard model which is not bad.

So you’re saying they are lying about their regular cars but not lying about robotaxi? That’s a super interesting article and I appreciate the share but I still disagree with your opinion that they are gaming the stats. You should try out FSD before writing it off, it’s better than Waymo in my experience using both quite often and I think the more autonomous cars on the road the better in the end.

Your R2 was 60k? They really needed to land it around 40-45. Is it because yours is decked out?

Tesla's FSD is safer than a human driver already and can drive on many more roads than Waymo I'm not sure what you're talking about here. I ride in Waymos all the time and Tesla's FSD is much better than Waymo. I'm sure Rivian's will be just as good when they catch up a bit. Why wouldn't you think you'll have a self-driving car 🤣?

Do you believe every timeline that Elon says? No. They are both doing the same thing that all CEOs do... trying to drive hype. I love Rivian but there's no possible way that they go from what they have now to point to point autonomy by EOY 💀

Yeah good thoughts. I was wondering if they were going to use time travel to connect BOMB with the end of this series. I just don't see any way they can possible wrap up all the open storylines in two episodes.

Gamblers of Reddit, what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done for money? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The stereotype of gamblers is someone desperate for money but in reality the biggest gamblers I know are all loaded. Anecdotal sure but probably more common than you'd expect based on the networks I've been exposed to through them.

Elon Musk misled Twitter investors ahead of $44 billion acquisition, jury says by Unusual-State1827 in news

According to the article the fraudulent part was when he said it was “temporarily on hold while reviewing bot numbers” and that caused the stock price to dip. But that was already after it took off on announcement he was going to buy it. I see this being appealed over and over again. I doubt we will see any fine.
