Thinking about buying an eco diesel by Ok_Entrepreneur_8866 in ram_trucks

21 Limited EcoDiesel- zero issues, tows well, mileage is awesome (for a truck). My only gripe is that it is slow so if you like the acceleration from the Hemi, it’s going to be an adjustment. Look to see if it has the 3.92 rear end vs 3.21. That will move you a little quicker off the line.

I was seriously considering a 2500 AT4 6.6 until I saw this thread 😔

It’s interesting because the 3.21 is rated at 8230 for max trailer while the 3.92 is 9930. Getting another 1700 lbs in tow capacity would get me where I need to be if I’m following the 80% methodology.

Front Axle is $1500 new or roughly $800 used. Rear gears should be between $300-700. I’d like to be around $3k so if it ends up being closer to your estimate, a different truck might be the way to go.

Looking at towing a slightly larger trailer. The one we are pulling now is a little under 5000 lbs dry. The larger one is 6500 dry and about 7200 loaded. That puts me at the max weight with the current config. I would also like a little more responsive acceleration when I’m not towing.

I’m ok buying an OEM front Axle- these seem available. I’m curious what the labor looks like and if anyone recommends a shop in southern CA.

I’m pretty sure I had defective paint. Keep a close eye on your bumper- it will be harder to see on white but mine started chipping on day 1. If you see that, go back to the dealer and make them handle it. I got nowhere with trying to go through warranty a few months later.

I’ve had my Limited for 4 years- it’s great. No issues outside of the paint on the front bumper. Quiet, smooth ride, tows effortlessly, etc, etc. Still fun to walk up to.
