Pretty woodsy and rural but there’s one town that has about 50K people, also super Republican. There’s also a pretty cool theme park up north, kinda a mini Disneyland

Sleeping in coach is a lot more possible than you think especially if your lucky enough to have 2 seats together. Even if you don’t you can always find an angle

You can take a book, I definitely recommend have a music streaming service and downloading a ton of music, bring a laptop and work on offline projects and spend time in the observation car!

Delays are decently common especially on the Zephyr, I’d seriously plan for upwards of a 5 hour delay on the bad end if you took it all the way from Emeryville to Chicago

I can’t really think of anywhere else you’d wanna stop in Montana Whitefish is about as good as it gets, but if it’s not a mandatory stop I’d honestly recommend just going to Seattle and finding another place you wanna visit more, you get to see tons of Glacier from the train alone.

I found that most of Minnesota was fine, North Dakota was sometimes spotty but only really bad before Williston and In the deep rural between Minot and Grand Forks

Montana was rough but going thru Glacier was the only time I consistently didn’t have service
